so my 2nd set of upper engine mount is now shot. so im thinking about going with the powerflex ones. ive read mixed reviews about them. some say they are horrible and some really love it..so just how bad is the vibration? how many of you guys are using the powerflex engine mount?

I use the ipd one which has a weird opening design in it almost looks like a slotted rotor but after installation no significant increase in vibration but its a solid mount and i wont have to worry about it now. I got lucky and it came on the s80 parts car I bought so it was a freebie.

Im assuming the ipd ones are similar to the powerflex? I mean they're both poly mounts. Im leaning towards the powerflex just cuz i can get them locally through EST and save on the shipping charges.

Alright so i was about to purchase the powerflex engine mount but before hitting the "pay" button i decided to do a bit more research. from what i gather, there is no way to get rid of the vibrations when switching to poly even after it kinda "wears" down. i dont know how bad the vibration would be but it sounds like something i dont wanna deal with. anyways, then I thought what if i just get the small transmission poly mount(powerflex) and just replace the upper engine mount with oem ones. but maybe even having that small poly trans. mount could cause annoying vibrations.? any thoughts?

I thing you are overtighten the mount and that will produce vibration. I did use the tranny mount(both) from power flex but just installed the small one after a few days i didnt like how the tranny felt so installed the oem bushing on the front snd small bushing with power flex, really like the results. Btw my ipd bushing has about 6 years+.

i havent bought any of the mounts but i was about to. i read that if you put the car in Drive while tightening the bolt for the upper engine mount reducels the vibration but not eliminate it.
like u said, I might just replace the small trans. but since my upper engine mount is shot again, I dont know if i wana replace that with poly or just buy another oem one.

If you are at all concerned about vibration, then I would stay away from the poly stuff. Most of the poly users on here are more concerned with the performance and tightness gained from the poly and are willing to accept the added vibration. And I get that. Sounds like you are not going to be wiling to accept the added vibration so I would stick with OEM. I would also avoid the poly trans mount as it is the main culprit for vibration at idle while in gear. These cars have an inherent amount of vibration even when brand new and age+poly bushings will amplify that considerably.

I have had both the ipd poly upper mount as well as the trans mount. Over time I had every configuration. Just upper poly, just trans poly, trans and upper poly. I couldn't stand the added vibration. If you put on new OEM rubber everything will tighten up considerably and vibration will be reduced. Poly will tighten even more but vibration will increase. Also believe it or not the two strut bar mounts can help tighten things up when renewed with the oem Hutchinson style mounts.

I did used also on automatic and no vibration at all, like i said it depends how hard do you tight it. But there is only one way to figure out? Lol

Hopefully someone will chime in that's actually removed just the bushing but I bet you'll have to cut out the old one, or if its worn enough it might just slide out. You should be able to push the powerflex bushing in by hand or at worst with some pliers.

Let us know how they feel, I hope you're pleasantly surprised!

So i have installed the upper powerflex mount. The install was super easy since the old bushing wash shot and came off easily. Well, the vibration that everyone is talking about is there. I had someone put the car in drive and step on the brake. Re tightened after driving for a bit and still vibrates. Ill probably give it a week or two to see how it feels. I dont think i can handle the vibration if it does get better after that.

However the engine just shifts a lot better and doesnt clunk as much as it used to which i really like.

If worn out, slide the pin inside the mount out. If not, drill or cut the rubber and extract the pin. Then, clean the remaining rubber and plastic (if i remember correctly there's plastic somewhere) off the mount. Push the new bushes and pin with the provided grease in the mount. It is pretty straight forward. Took me around 30min with uninstall/install on the car for both bushing.

Beside idle vibration, you will greatly benefit from this mod. Smoother shifting and better throttle response.

Thanks! I had no problems installing the bushing. Like u said, it pretty straight forward. I just hope the vibration becomes noticably less as time goes by. I might loosen the bolt a little bit to see if that would help.
