Hey guys,

I'm familiar with P2 chassis and engine and timing belt replacement requirements.

Now looking at a 2015 XC70 T6 awd and wondering what the recommended maintenance intervals are? Anything to look out for that wears pre-maturely on these? the car I'm looking at in is great shape but has 90k miles on it which is a higher for a 2015.

Thanks in advance.

Any large maintenance items, like the time belt on the P1/P2 motors? The timing belt is gone in lieu of chain correct? Any consistency on lifespan of chassis parts?

If you walked up to a 2015 with 90k miles that only had oil and brakes done what would you expect else would have to be replaced?

Thanks

The big service on these cars is 150,000 miles. Runs about $1800 to $1900 here locally. It covers the same as the 75,000 mi service, plus belts and a clutch...

That's right, no timing belt on the 3 liter T6.

If I was to walk up to a 90k mile AWD car I'd be thinking about ATF, angle gear, and rear differential fluid changes even though all of them are considered "lifetime" fluids.

I would think spark plugs would have already been changed at around 60k but on a car that saw a lot of miles fast maybe not.

The Volvocars website has a section with maintenance schedules and owners manuals if you want to see what the official schedule is.

Suspension and motor mounts may start to get to tired at around 100k so you may not be all that far from that work.

PCV will also have to be done at some point but I read it's a lot easier than on earlier cars.

Good luck on your search. I've owned several P3 cars (still have 2 of them) and I've been pretty happy with them.

You've had good advice so far.

Definitely ATF - do it drain-and-fill style with every oil change till you've done 3 or 4, then every other oil change after that.

Angle/bevel gear, rear differential, every 100k km (60k mi) or so. Probably same for the haldex service which I think is just fluid and a filter.

I don't have a firm opinion on plugs but they're probably good for 160k km (100k mi). Not super expensive to change early though.

No timing belt - timing chain instead which means you need extra attention to the engine oil. Full synthetic only and be wary of super long change intervals. The oil capacity on these 6 cylinder cars is really big and I think that's how they get away with long change intervals. I wouldn't go past 16k km (10k mi) unless you have an oil analysis that says that's ok for your car/climate/etc. Fully synthetic oil should also help chase PCV issues away for a while.

The accessory belt is a big service though - I think 'V70 Brad' says that's at 150k mi. It's a serpentine belt, pulley, tensioner, and a fair bit of work. At the same time you would also want to think about the alternator coupling setup - maybe a new clutch? maybe a new coupling? - and anything else that would be apart to get the belt job done like water pump, thermostat, addressing any AC clutch issues...

Everything mentioned up to the accessory belt service is pretty standard DIY-fare and you can save a bunch of money by getting into all that yourself. The belt service is for more advanced DIY-ers but definitely do-able at home AFAICT (I will probably be into this job myself this coming summer)
