Looks so good! They must brings these to NA. It's like the C30's older brother [or a Ford Focus 5door with 100x more class :D]

How's the T4 engine? I know if we do get the v40 here it will come with the 2.4i or the T5...but still kind of curious about the T4

I am so very jealous!!! Just about the model I want! Please more pics and of interior too!!!! I want to see averything about this car :D

By the way, where are you? generally speaking (the country), UK?

fallenfenix87:
The V40 is like a grown-up C30 in many aspects. The interior quality is very pleasant and the V40 have, in my opinion, one of the best exterior design in this class.

The T4 engine is really good. At first I thought that the 1.6 GTDI should be to slow, but it isn't. Both the performance and the fuel economy is okey. Over my first 1000 km the average consumption is approx. 32 US MPG (7.4 l/100km)
Hopefully the consumption will drop a little bit by time.

TG:
I will post more pics when the weather allow me to take more photos, right now it's raining a lot in Gothenburgh ( As answer on you second question, I am from Sweden).

You're welcome, more photos will be posted soon!

Great! I can't wait to see them!
Sweden! I would not have been able to tell... That's great though.
huhumm, any chance you could go knock on the door of Volvo corporate office and ask them to ship us some over here, us poor american resident ;)

Sorry Volvos heyday in the USA was in 1981 when the one millonth car bound for the US rolled off the production line, a silver 240 estate. At the time this made Volvo one of the biggest imported brands into the states, if not the biggest. Volvo manufactured 372,400 cars in 1983, today 449,000, not much of an improvement. They sold 2.8 million 240 series world wide. In the Seattle area I see more Volvos that are 20+ years old than new ones. 240 series were expensive at the time, but people bought those tanks because they were safer than anything else on the road and they were way over engineered, read long life and very reliable. For a time Volvo made the safest most reliable cars on the road, everyone else has caught up. What's Volvos identity now? Dealers in the US are begging for the V40. Granted the US is a very competitive market, maybe they can't sell the V40 here and make a profit. Besides the new S60 Volvo and XC60 Volvo is offering little for the US market. A short product line, Xc90 old, S60/xc60 new, xc70 old, S80 old, so basically Volvo is importing 4 models into the states 3 of which are way past their prime. C30 gone, C70 gone, S40 gone, V50 gone, Volvo is shooting themselves in the foot in the US, US dealers have basically a very small offering.
It's too bad, I've owned 8 different Volvos, the V50 will be my last. My brand loyalty only goes so far, they offer nothing I would buy anymore. CYA Volvo.

Volvo needs a US factory...

#15 ·
Good in theory, but that would kill the build quality. The "new Fords" haven't been around long enough for me to start believing that Americans can build lasting cars again.

#16 ·
American workers can build quality cars, it's not their fault management makes decisions based largely on cost and limits what the engineers can do.

#17 ·
^^ That.

We digress, back to the V40! (I think we're all just jealous over here in the US)

Oh my gosh that car is so awesome! I love the new LED style with the headlights.

And "fail" is a harsh word for the modern car crash test results. It's more like: Volvo got nearly perfect scores but the others fell short, but still decent, in a few areas ;)

Definitely a manual since you can see the Gear-Shift Indicator (GSI) in the instrument cluster.

Anyway: Nice car! My parents will be picking up their V40 in a about a month - I'm looking forward to that... ;-)

Love the V40, its a great design!

We were supposed to get it here in Mexico and then Volvo decided that it looked "too wagon" and decided they will only bring the V40 XC to compete with the X1 and Q3.

At least they brought me my V60 which is awesome.

The V40 looks a lot like the V60 in a smaller package

Was the V50 sold in USA until they stopped producing it? Beats me why they are not planning on selling the V40 in The USA. I own an V60 myself, but borrowed an V40 last weekend, an it feels so much more modern than the V60 on the inside. The instrumentation and interior lights are so good looking, and you got moodlight wich you can switch between 7 different colors! Gadgets and gizmos, i love it! And i drives great, even sharper and quicker than the V60. Great little car, you are really missing out on something here, unfortunely.

volvocu:
First of all it's a smaller car which enables more fun behind the wheels. The steering is much more sharper in the V40 compared to the V60. The suspension is more firmer (sport chassi) and the car is really enjoyable on a twisty road. But, and this is not a bad thing, the driving comfort is still there! The V40 gives you comfort but with a sporty touch.

Inside the cabin, the material quality feels much more premium than in the V60. In my opinion it is a huge step in the right direction. With that said, the V60 is not a bad car but the V40 they have refined a good car (V60) and make it even better. One nice thing is the frameless rear view mirror. The mode lights (LED that can be choosen in different colors) gives the premium feel more present.

The luggage compartment is bigger than the digits indicates, it just need a little more planning.

Hi ricopet, thanks for your reply, exactly what I was hoping to hear! Definately seems like to car I would like to drive, thing is volvo has priced the car too high in my country but im 100% sure there will be huge discounts, which in turn will mean that the resell value will once again be awful!!!

I love the looks of the V40 but it would never compete in the US. It looks like a focus so people will just buy a focus. Yes it may be a better car, remains to be seen though, but the focus is cheaper, easier to get serviced, more well known and o ya its way cheaper. Word in the college scene is that Volvos are expensive and hard to fix. rather get a Subaru or ford. I know mine is a pain and im getting tired of Volvo.

#35 ·
Subies WRXs are VERY expensive to fix.

Volvos are more targeted for the young family/middle age parents who will pass on their cars to their teen drivers for the safety features.

Please bring the V40 over and market the heck out of it AND the Overseas Delivery Program. OSD is AWESOME and 99% of americans don't even know what it is...what a shame.

Hey (or should I say Hej!) Ricopet, nice car. i'm from the UK and i'm picking up my new V40 D2 in a few weeks. (pretty excited), mine will be in Rebel Blue.

I'm looking forward to (hopefully) getting up to 780 miles from a tank of fuel (as some owners have reported) and the extra acceleration and comfort as compared to my current C30 1.6SE (I will still be sad to lose it)

Also looking forward to trying out the
I have sacrificed heated seats and cruise control which I have on my C30, but didn't use them too much anyway.

Maybe one day we will drive to Sweden in it (last time we visited Stockholm and this summer we will be visitng Malmo + Copenhagen - where our faviourite show "The Bridge" was filmed)

I would be interested to hear how you are getting on with your V40 as you have had it a while now?

Hej!
Andy6550, I'm very pleased with my car. Yes I have had the car since autumn 2012, but now its time to change to a new one due to my leasing contract.
I really like the V40, and my next car will be a V40 again for sure. This time I'm plan to end up with a V40 R-design, but can't decide weather the Passion red or Rebel blue fits the car best.
Probably its possible to getting up to 780 miles from a tank of fuel with a V40 D2.

The bridge is a really nice TV-serie, and Malmö is beautiful, especially in the summer. So are you planning to go by your new car to sweden this summer?
