panoramic roof rubber replacement

Hi all

My V60 2019 is out of warranty, and my back seal for panoramic roof is torn. Same seal that everyone has gap in it.

So dealer will want all my money and a left kidney I assume

Does anyone have documentation how the rubber could be changed. Because i saw rubber itself cost around 60 eur.
And I am handy, so with some pointers i assume it should not be a problem.

so any help would be appreciated.

That's damage.. it wouldn't have ever been covered under warranty, so the timeframe doesn't matter. Never hurts to ask, but it's not really a reasonable request IMO.

I'm pretty sure the seal requires the whole headliner to be removed, and that can be damaged in the process as well as being a bit of a PIA from what I've seen. I would expect it to be a pretty involved/not fun process. Someone with VIDA can probably get the instructions printed out for you.

Good automotive sealant might also be a great idea. Just clean, clean, clean again, the rubber first.
FWIW, (TEST THIS FIRST/Practice) a good tip if you use something like black silicone, put a small amount of silicone over all you want covered. Then give it a spray with Windex. Then your finger will glide right over the silicone, spreading/smoothing it, but not sticking to your finger making a mess.
I learned that trick many, many, moons ago working at an engineering firm (AEG Westinghouse) sealing electrical cabinets, and have used it since.

Wow that is crazy that these gaskets are failing after only a few years. I wonder if there is a rubber treatment that could be applied periodically to extend the lifespan, like a silicone spray or something like that.

Removing a headliner in a S60 means rear glass removal most likely (I'm assuming that the part is the same as the V60, along with the possible problem point), that would be a really expensive job out of warranty since the glass may not survive removal.

Well this is a case of damage, not really failure. The only reason the glass comes out on the S60 is to have room to get the headliner out... not the case for wagons and SUVs. It's not uncommon on sedans.

I just looked at mine (2020 V60) to see what might have caused the damage to the gasket. I saw that the moving glass panel has a channel that hangs down and actually compresses the spongy rubber part of the gasket (what is torn in the photo) as it slides back. I was surprised to see it designed this way. I can now understand how the damage can occur. Rubber exposed to the sun over time will dry out and get hard. I assume that this compressing and releasing of an aged rubber gasket could cause it to crack, even tear.

My car was on the lot for about 6 months before I bought it, but in my garage since then. Since I've owned it since February 2021 and I've used SOS 303 rubber treatment on all the rubber parts of the car. My gasket is nice and soft, like it is suppose to be. I would recommend everyone to do the same on their car if they park it outside in the sun, or plan to keep the car for a long time.

Absolutely, I will be doing this on my S60 starting now.

Honestly I wish the panoramic roof was fixed glass like the C40. I don’t like opening the roof anyway, and it seems like it’s such a common problem spot with the drain issues and the squished/torn gasket and all that.

That seal shrunk on my V60. You do not have to remove the headliner to replace it. Put the front portion of the glass in “vent.” Open the shade fully. Behind the rubber strip on the inside of the car, there are three torx screws on either side of the rear portion of the glass. Remove those screws and then carefully remove the glass. Replacement of the seal itself is pretty straightforward. Clean the adhesive residue from the front of the glass very well before installing the new seal.
