Just curious but I would like to hear what u guys have done to your volvos sound system

I got some JBL GX628's to put in the back doors this weekend and a set of Alpine S-S65 speakers for the front doors. The car is a 2012 XC70 with the premium sound system

Lol ikr, but previously I had put in a set of JBL P652s they sound amazing bc they are coaxial they added so much to the surround sound experience + the 12 inch american bass sub, but sadly the right side speaker cuts of at anything past 3/4 volume, so I bought another set of jbls

Btw the original volvo speakers build quality is really bad, but their sound wasn't too bad

You should do some research.

The 08-11 XC70 has Dynaudio which will blow those puny speakers out of the sky. From 12 Volvo turned to the Harman group as supplier for the PS system, not the same level as the Dynadio but shouldnt be that far off.

What label does your old speakers have?

Really common in P3 S80, it all fits except the center.

The Harmon Kardon is a loooooooongggg way off from dynaudio of years past in both construction and sound quality. Dynaudio is vastly superior, especially the tweeters. The failure rate is a little higher though.

Yeah the JBL magnet was significantly bigger than the stock premium sound(hk) speakers and weighed way more

Right but can you take a picture of the label? I dont see how the premium sound woofers have a magnet that is considerably smaller than the lower level high performance woofers.

The premium woofers have real tiny magnets and weigh basically nothing. The carrier bracket weighs more than the speakers (not that weight is everything)

Sound is very, very personal, and I do believe the dynaudio (when not blown) sound leaps and bounds better than the HK in my polestar, but it is no surprise given the hardware. If you throw more power to them than the factory amp they really, really sing. If you are an everyday listener who just listens to music over bluetooth like 99% of people, I would agree they are comparable.

Failure rate is higher, but I have not seen it as bad as Wagonswede, perhaps it's the geographical difference. My P2R is rocking dynaudio woofers from a 2008 S80 for the past four years now.

The amp in the HK cars is another issue, someone on facebook looked at the signals it was outputting and it was basically pointless trying to get it to sound good with other speakers, there is some DSP/correction going on in the AUD that is tuned specifically for the speakers in the car. The amp from any of the dynaudio cars might work in a pre Sensus Connect car, but I believe MOST is slightly different on Sensus Connect, I have not tried it yet.

I also agree that bass response is better in the high performance system.

I do not like the HK very much at all, I tried swapping in some audiofrog woofers and tweeters and the y sounded pretty much the same, really over pronounced highs, missing vocals, and mediocre bass. I believe this is a result of processing because they sound excellent when powered off a dumb amp. My next project is trying to do the whole OEM dynaudio conversion from earlier P3, and maybe my own DSP/amp.

Check out this thread for some insight: https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/volvo-v60-audio-install-log.613935/ not an XC/V70 but the challenges will remain the same.

I dont' think wagonswede's compromise is bad either, the tweeters and mids are the magic in the dynaudio systems, but they are 4ohms, you would want to match the woofer at 4ohms also, otherwise you will have some weird volume characteristics as I found out.
