People have a problem with how high the hood opens now? Gotta love the internet.

 

I guess it is easier to work on the engine.

 

Up until ~2020 model year you can open the hood on a SPA car and position it most anywhere you want from 25% open to full and it will stay there.
Noticed right away on the 2021's they spring right up to 100% with no effort. Seems they boosted the struts or reduced the friction somehow.

Of course we should mention that from 1983 to 2004 Volvo sold the 740, 940, 960, 850, X70 car platforms and they all feature some sort of quick release on the hinges so the hood (bonnet) will open all the way straight up!
Yes, it can make service and regular maintenance that much easier 😉

Hardly anyone knows that. It sure makes access easier!

 

I don't have a problem with it. I was just wondering. I lease my cars every 2-3 years so I'm not required to do any work on them. Usually just open hold for washer fluid or battery check. I've had good experiences with my previous cars. Thanx for the info.

 

I can't think of a safety reason. Having the hood go way up makes it much easier to work on and remove things. As I recall my other Volvo's were designed to lift the hood up high.

 

Thank you. I see now. This is my first Volvo. I see now the advantages for hood raising to high levels.

 

On my mercedes the hood opens to a certain degree first, by you can push it further to open 100%. I don't give a f**k either way.
