No surprise unfortunately. I personally sold 1 new S60 in 2024 (a few CPOs though), this year just the one T8 Black Edition I just delivered a couple of weeks ago, 2 units in 2023. During the COVID time shortages Volvo wasn't shipping components for stock cars - they shifted everything to where they made the most money. While the S60 was never a strong seller, that was actually probably the nail in the coffin for the S60.

I personally really liked it.

 

Essentially a V60 with a trunk, right?

It's dead now so doesn't much matter. American's have bad taste in cars and everyone wants a crossover in the luxury segment. I never had many people come in on either the V60 or S60 since I started with Volvo in 2018.

 

All cars seem to blending into one amorphous CUV. A Maserati CUV went by me the other day, not only did I not know Maserati made such a thing, I thought it was a KIA until I could see the badge

Yep. Volvo just dumped a ton of ex rental cars on the market the last week or so. Sadly they all are missing climate package.

 

I have had my V60 since March - my first Volvo. Love it so far.
I have always liked and preferred station wagons. I am the original owner, and still have, a 2002 VW Passat wagon.

Here in the USA, station wagons are a rare thing. Most people prefer SUV's and that's what the manufacturers sell. Every auto manufacturer has a small, medium, and large SUV. They all look alike to me - square boxes on wheels.

When I went to Portugal last year, I was surprised and delighted to see how common station wagons are there. I understand this is the case throughout Europe.

 

True ... but SUVs are taking over there too. Just not the mega-size ones that we see a lot of here.

 

There were only 30 MY2025 V60 PEs imported/sold in the USA in 2025. That does not include MY2025 cars sold in late 2024 but still the numbers were low. Sad to see Volvo be yet another automaker going to SUV/Crossover only but they have to follow demand.

 

If they are all more or less the same car, is there still any kind of brand loyalty or identity? If they all end up looking like a CX-5, I could just buy one of those and save a lot of money.

 

I'll never sell my V60

 

I feel like that with my V70. There really is no equivalent car anymore. I wish Volvo still made them.

 

I wonder how many V60’s were sold in the USA in recent years. I would think less than the S60.

Separate out the V60CC and the V60 number is drastically lower. I think you search for V60II to see that data with the V60CC removed.

I thought I needed a wagon. I know the wagonheads won't appreciate this: I was wrong. Number of times I haven't had the space for something since I dropped SUV for Sedan: 0 times. So far. Time will tell.

Very sad to see Volvo dropping the S60... Coming from a 2023 T8 Black Edition, this is a fantastic car. When it comes time to upgrade, not sure if I'll be sticking with Volvo anymore (owned 4 Volvos). My favorite vehicle was the non-CC V60 (2019-2021). When I looked to upgrade my 2017 V60, I was disappointed they stopped producing them so I went with the S60 (cannot get behind a CC, sorry). Now with this gone, there are very few options out there. Not sure the craze of CUVs, they all look the same and do not offer a dynamic driving experience, in my opinion...

 

Try electric ... then you'll see dynamic.

 

Love my S60. Driving it on some curvy roads in the Black Hills this weekend—superb for both that and highway cruising.

For some reason I only got 24 mpg coming out here—might have been the wind with a bike on top—but getting 34 mpg today driving through the canyons. (Normally I get well over 30 on long trips where I can’t plug in.)

I rarely see a need for more room, but I wish it had a hitch for bikes and perhaps a small trailer. That’s making me think I might get an XC60 when my lease is up next year. We’ll see.

Have to say though, the S60 T8 is just a great sedan. There’s hardly anything out there that compares for the price.

 

The bike on the roof would definitely kill your fuel economy and range on PHEV.

 

A used sedan and a utility trailer can replace alot of wagons, SUVs, and even pick up trucks, for far less money (including the price of the trailer). Wagons are simply cooler though.

 

Wagons aren't cool. Not even Volvo wagons. Let's call them what they truly are STATION WAGONS. hahahaha

When I tell people most modern SUVs are just a station wagon with higher ground clearance, their heads explode when the realize it's true. It's fun.

 

That's why the station wagon is dead. The SUVs are becoming more wagon like all the time. You know what they say, what's old is new again.
