One Year/10,000 mile service question

The in service date on our XC40 is 8/21/18. We did an oil change at 5,000 miles that we paid for.

We are currently have 7,300 miles on it and the first week of April we are driving from CT to FL and back. I’ve been calculating the mileage at the end of the trip and it could be 11,000 miles (or more).

I have to call the dealer to schedule an appointment to fix a seat issue and was going to ask them as well, but is there an official number of mikes you can be over 10,000 miles for the free service?

Volvo recommends every 10,000 mikes. I keep cars for a decade (or two) so I use a 5,000 mike oil change schedule.

I spoke with my dealership today and the service adviser said 1,500 miles over would not be a problem.

i see. So scientific facts never change over time when new variables or information becomes available. Engine technology will remain the same and not require changes.

Maybe if Volvo had a better powertrain warranty I would feel better about their recommendations on oil changes.

I will say it again, There is nothing wrong with doing what you are but it is a technical waste and not needed. You are no different than some weirdo changing his oil every 2,000 miles.

The engineers that designed this engine are smarter than you and me combined. I trust them. I have yet to see a 4 cylinder die or have issues for that matter because of the 10k service interval.

The Volvo powertrain warranty is extremely good and Volvo is generous if you service your car regularly at a dealer. I have seen engines or pistons replaced under goodwill with 90k+ miles on them because they had immaculate service histories but something just gave way unexpectedly.

The way I see it; that they allow 2000miles over the mark. Since the free factory services are first 3 or 36000miles. In my opinion that's at 12k,24k and 36k which implies a 2000mile grace at each service interval of 10k.
Again this is how I see it.
You could read it as 3 yrs or 36k, whichever comes first. If you hit 36k before 3 yrs, then that's end of freebie period and you should have had 3 oil chgs already.
