Where did you buy them? OBD2 port is standardized and absolutely fits anything that is compatible. I suspect you bought some knock off that comes from a place like AliExpress. Highly recommend not trying to make either plug fit because you can damage the ports - which will be an expensive fix.

I have used both of these on other vehicles (Toyota, Kia, Mazda, older Volvo) with out any fitment issues.

 

Pins in the OBD2 port might already be damaged due to inproper use.

 

Ill look closer at the pins

 

I have a Bluetooth scanner and a USB power take off for my dash cam but neither of them want to fit. They look like they should fit but no go?

If I hold the power (USB) one in with my hand it works but as soon as I let go it pushes it out.

Is there a special Volvo type OBD plug, because that wouldn't surprise me?

Yes, I searched but came up empty.

Just take it back to the selling dealer. Should be covered under warranty.

 

OBDII is OBDII. There is no "special" version

I also have a Autel obdII scanner that doesnt fit as well, maybe the pins are messed up already.

 

After inspecting further I found a small piece of black plastic that was stuck in the middle area of the plug. I was able to clear it out with a small dental pick. I really had to get down there to see it with some inspection glasses.

Now to the main topic - the OBD2 port is always powered even when car is locked. If dashcam will be run in parking mode, the 12v battery will degrade irreversibly in just a few months. Get a dedicated backup power for the dashcam.

 

The plug I use has a battery voltage cut off selection, I use that.

 

Daily cycling down to the voltage cutoff limit is what kills the 12v battery within few months. The 12v battery lead-acid chemistry cannot sustain regular deep cycling.
