Newer S40/V50 and remote window down...

So I was talking to my dealer yesterday about how my remote doesn't seem to activate the roll-down function on the window and he had me leave it at his service department for a few hours. The service guys looked in the manual and said that, despite what my saleman had told me, that my S40 didn't have the feature because it wasn't listed in the manual. Being a nice guy I informed my salesman that they called him a liar...

A few hours later I got a voicemail from the salesman that they did some research and sure enough, the newer S40/V50's on the lot didn't appear to have the feature but that they were able to hook it up to a computer in the service department and enable the function through a software setting.

So if you've got a newer S40 or V50 and you can't get your windows to roll down from the remote you should have a conversation with your dealer as it's something that they can fix.

Mine will go back next week to get the code changed. I'm wondering if they can enable the window-up function as well. I'll let you know if they can.

Strange...
Mine only has the remote UP but not the DOWN. Asked my dealership if they could reactivate it and they said NO...

Well I'll ask them again and thell them it is possible to do.

If anyone could give more info where they have to look in the software?

On the other hand I didn't have any soft related problems so far so if they are going to tamper with it all hell might brake loose...

Not so sure if it's a patch or rather just hooking it up to the OBD and resetting values? I stood with one techie while he was performing a PDI on a new 2.0D...The few things I could see, he could set from the service interval, passenger airbag warning, seatbelt warning, up and down for windows, home lighting options etc etc on the PC. This is over and above the std settings you do through the centre console.

What? What button does this?

Do a search... on some US (I think it's most but not all) S40/V50s, you can press and hold the Unlock button on the key or in the vehicle and all the windows will go down.

You can also press, release, press and hold the Lock button in the car and all the windows go up (this doesn't work in the US from the key).

The "up" function for all windows on the remote is, I believe, not enabled in politically correct USA.

Supposedly a person can get a body part hurt by having it in the window when you roll the windows up.

Yet, my salesman (getsy guy) demonstrated with his arm that the window actually instantly reversing when it detects resistance (like a body part in the window).

Can't be too safe in the USA, Meanehile, I'll enjoy the up and down remote feature on my Australian Spec

I'm not sure whether this reason is a rumor we have crated and propagated ourselves, here in the forum, or if someone is actually in the know about this. All I know is that this is a silly omission. My 1996 Audi A4 had pinch protection windows and sunroof and I tried them out, many times. My pinky finger was enough to trigger the window reverse and it was painless. Sure, the system could have failed somehow and caused (or rather, not prevented) injury, but there are a zillion things that can go wrong on a car and hurt someone. This is a silly one for Volvo to pick on, if liability is indeed their reason.
