Need extended warranty recommendations

My 2018 XC90 is now out of the factory warranty and I want to know what is a fair price to pay and what plan others recommend. Should I go through the dealership and negotiate or 3rd party? I have under 30k miles and haven't had many problems so I don't know how much trouble I can expect to have in the coming years or mileage.

I'm not sure how it works at a dealer after your factory warranty is over. But the VIP Platinum is outstanding. Plenty of threads on it.

A lot of 3rd party warranties make grand promises and fail to live up to them. Best to stick with a Volvo warranty backed by Fidelity.

Warranties are a gamble. Honestly, only one I find favorable is the one offered to CPO's (10 yr / unlimited miles). But it appears your car was bought new? and this is not applicable.

If the warranty is expired your extended warranty will not cost a substantial amount. Had it been purchased while it was under warranty the cost is much, much less to add an extended warranty. Probably a price increase of $1,500-2,000 just because the warranty is expired. Plenty of reputable companies like Ethos offer warranties even better the CPO coverage.

Hmmm, that really does read/look similar if not the same - but does it have the same "pull" at the dealer? By that I mean, or maybe I'm presuming, that since my VIP warranty is Volvo's that there's more of a vested interested between the dealer + manufacturer to resolve issues and, especially, to do it to Volvo's standards. Does this get the same results or am I reading more into mine than is really there?

What did you end up going with? I'm pricing out warranties for a potential purchase of a 2018 XC90 T5 Momentum for a family member. The kicker is that I want a warranty that my Volvo independent shop can work with and avoid the dealer. Would the Fidelity warranty be one of those? I have Maxcare (Assurant) on my MB, and it has been painless.

Electronics and air conditioning. Our mechanic has done quite a few air conditioning replacements on the SPAs, and he said it is not a cheap repair. Brother’s XC60 T5 is in the shop at the dealer (located elsewhere from our mechanic) with air condition issue as well. I test drove a V90CC a few months ago, and the AC went out during the test drive.

The Volvo warranty I believe would only be good at a Volvo shop. But I could be wrong, i've never heard of someone trying to use it at a 3rd party. Warranties can be though of a bit like life insurance.... if they aren't asking for a health check, then they might not really be covering as well. What I mean is, if I were to sell someone a Volvo warranty once it's outside, I would require a service check out to look for any pre existing conditions. Then it's not a big problem. But if you can just call a company up and get your car covered, I'd be more worried.

I just saw a service customer have a bad experience with Car Shield... not that I would have expected Car Shield to be any good frankly. But anyhow, they declined all the repairs but one, which without looking at the contract, might not be surprising... the one part they said would be covered was for a motor mount and they asked our service team what the failure was, we told them it was torn and they said they didn't cover that sort of failure.... I suppose it had to snap the steal mounts to qualify. Volvo warranties I can attest are very good at covering the parts and labor. There are some 3rd party warranties that are very good. It can just be challenging for the consumer to dig through and figure out which are good and which are bad.

I remember the geico thread. It sounded too good to be true for me. When it's so cheap you can't afford to say no, you have to ask how they even fund the program. It's not like cars don't break.
