I am putting up for sale my 1992 Volvo 240 GL (miles 166,780). Here is a quick story on the vehicle. Last year, I was looking for a daily driver, putting around 60 miles per day. The car is fairly easy to work on, as most Volvo enthusiasts know. I purchased the car in August 2012 in the DFW area here in Texas. I drove up to pick up the car from Houston and drove it back. Since then, a few things have changed: I now have a company truck that I use, while my BMW stays out in the garage. So, having my wife's car, my BMW, and the company truck does not make sense any more for a 4th vehicle. I have had a lot of fun with this project car and have learned so much from the online Volvo community.
Since I purchased the car, I have done quite an extensive list of items which I will highlight below. Keep in mind, that this is the car that my 4 ½ year old loves, we have taken it out every weekend so safety and dependability was important to me. The Volvo has never let me down. My passion for the vehicle evolved over the last six months, it is not impressive to look at, but people recognize it everywhere I go. I get asked a lot of questions about mileage, age, repairs, etc... The MPG is not bad when compared to other similar vehicles of its time like the Mercedes W124, and the BMW E34, which I have been consistently getting in the range of 20-22 MPG. So, I wish could keep the car, but I don't have any more room and it is time to move on. I will miss the Brick, and the awesomeness of the Volvo online community, Here is a list of items that I have performed on the car:
1. Relays swapped
2. P/S Mount bushing replaced
3. Crankshaft pully replaced
4. Head gasket kit
5. Replaced 1x exhaust valve
6. Rear main seal repair
7. New radiator
8. Front wheel bearings repacked
9. New water pump
10. New thermostat
11. Transmission oil change (Red Line Synthetic)
12. Bypass overdrive solenoid, repaired shift linkage. Repaired kick down cable.
13. Head work
14. Mobil One synthetic Oil
15. New battery
16. New plugs, rotor cap, and wires.
17. Air conditioning check, it blows cold!
18. New wipers
19. New tail lights
20, Rear diff oil (Synthetic)
21. Oil Pan gasket (replaced and resealed.)
All this work was done by the guys at TAP-VIP Inc. here in Houston.
The additional work was done by Rolf, the Volvo gurus at /sefeldtauto/
1. New shocks all around (KYB)
2. Cut the springs 1" all around
3. New wheel spacers
4. Installed 16" wheels (I picked up these great wheel from a fellow Enthusiast in Austin)
5. Checked overall engine condition- came back strong!
Here is a list of items I was going to do next on the vehicle (These items have not been performed)
1. Black out tape on all exterior chrome
2. I replaced the after market radio with the stock radio to keep things original. The radio turns on but it does not play. I believe you will need to tap into the amplifier which sits behind the glove box. I ran out of time.
3. Suspension bushings upgrade
4. Throttle body grade (existing one works just fine, looking for more power)
More items about the car:
1. Maintenance history records on the car up to 90,000 miles from Point West Volvo, Southwest Auto, and Autohauss, in the DFW area.
2. Radio code
3. The car was resprayed in 2011, but it is not the best paint job. There are details that are not up my standards. I was going to respray the car at a later point.
4. Tires have plenty of tread.
5. I have roof racks that will come with the car.
I cannot think of anything else at the moment, it has been a fun project; but this was short lived unfortunately. It's a keeper for someone that has enough appreciation for the 240 series and enough room in their garage. The car runs strong, the AC is cold, heater works, power windows works, auto locks works, speedometer works.
I do have the title in hand, blue title.
Inspection sticker is good until 08/13
Registration is good until 09/13
$4400.00
