Do you have to take the front bumper off to replace the low beams on a 2005 V70? I seem to be getting conflicting info from the Gods of Google and DuckDuckGo.
My bulbs are not dead, I am going to do the H9 upgrade. I won't bother until we get a warm day or two if I have to take the bumper off.

I just replaced the low beam bulbs in my 2006. Not sure if exact the same for 2005 but it is possible to change them without removing the bumper. Volvo should be shot for the access they provide - need to remove the air box on drivers side and plastic box around I think the CEM on passengers. And even then you need small hands and have to do it by feel. Had my son do one side because his hands are smaller and more flexible but I had to coach him on what to feel for, which way to turn etc.

According to VIDA yes you are to take the bumper cover off and remove the headlight ass'y to replace the bulb(s).
Getting the bumper cover off is easy, however getting the covers off the headlight washers off without breaking their clips is another thing!
For the left side take the air cleaner box out and you'll have plenty of access.
Right side is more crowded. Taking the windshield washer fill tube off will give you a little room but not much.
If you're dexterous and have small hands it can be done but if you need to repair a melted connector too I will often just take the ECM's and their surrounding box out for full access, just be aware taking them out resets all adaption values so you may experience ignition ping or funny shifting until they relearn.

Is it that different behind the bumper cover V70 vs XC70?

I replaced a low beam on a 2004 XC just today (2/2), easy-peasy. I can't believe it's that different behind the front end?

Or is a +2005 vs. a 2004 down very different?

Nope. There's plenty of space, if you're used to working in tight quarters.

Not to get political but replacing V70 low beam bulbs is a new job opportunity for Trump, what with his small hands.

I Did my 2005 V70 T5 last week without removing anything. I have a T5 so my air box is in a different location so there is room. It was not easy but not very difficult either. I had the H9 upgrade but switched to the Hikari LEDs. Was a great improvement even over the H9. GlĂĽck.
