List of S60 maintenance items prior to coast to coast trip

I took the S60 into the local specialist (Scandia, Sunnyvale) for an inspection so they could identify all the things that need fixing prior to my son driving from CA to VT to college. The car has 126k miles.

Here's the list:
.. replace rear rotors and pads
.. replace swaybar links
.. replace upper and lower torque mounts
.. replace lower engine mounts
.. brake fluid flush
.. transmission fluid flush

I was thinking of doing this all myself apart from the rear motor mounts and transmission oil flush. I haven't researched how to do the lower torque mounts yet but the upper one is easy enough..

Thoughts? Are any of the jobs daunting for a DIY'er with basic skills.

Thanks!!

Aside from the lower engine mount, it's all pretty accessible.

The lower torque mount is actually quite easy (assuming you have the correct metric sockets and a long bar), it is just 4 bolts (2 + 2), easy to see right at the front of the skid pan, slightly towards the driver's side.

The rear rotors can be good or bad depending on how long there been on there, and how much rust there is. If they are worn/rusted on the inside, the rust lip tends to pull off the emergency brake pads, wreaking the retaining springs in the process.

Have you just had the timing belt and serpentine belt done? At your mileage they should have been fairly recent. Although serpentine belts are cheap and easy to replace, and when they die they often take out the timing belt so they should be replaced early and often.

When did you last do a coolant flush?
When did you last do spark plugs?
When did you last do the fuel filter? (if it has one)
When did you last do the air filter?

If it's been a while, all these things are worth doing.

Good ideas and more work!

.. I did the timing and belt about 20k ago.
.. The air filter was about 10k ago but it needs replacement as it has a rip.
.. The plugs were last done over 40k ago, ditto on the coolant flush.
.. I'll have to have a look if it has a fuel filter

Quick way to tell if it has a replaceable fuel filter or not is to just look under the car and see if you have a metal gas tank. Easily distinguishable from the plastic variant. If you have a metal tank, there is no fuel filter. If you have a plastic tank, you have a external filter that can easily be changed.

Side note: if you do have a external filter, I have a brand new Mahle filter for sale. Just PM me if needed!

I'd do the spark plugs and coolant then.
