OK troops, I am creating this thread in the hope of bringing together all our knowledge on what can be done with OrBit. Thanks to the efforts of @Power6, @x119 and possibly others, we now have the ability to make serious changes to our SPA Volvos.

Read about OrBit here: Home

I'm not sure how to format this but I'll start by listing the changes I have succeeded in making so far...

1 - S/S memory. I changed that setting from 'button without memory' to 'button with memory'. A great change!

2 - Steering wheel paddles. After fitting an R-design wheel with gearshift paddles to my car I enabled the paddles with OrBit.

3 - Drive modes + Individual drive mode. These are actually 2 different settings. After fitting a starter switch module containing the drive mode switch/wheel I enabled these settings.

4 - Polestar optimisation. Definately transmission optimisation and, in my opinion on my D5, engine mapping is changed.

5 - Screen skins. Changed from 'Standard' to 'Excellence'. Subtle but fun.

6 - Auxiliary lights. This gave a new button in Sensus that makes a connection (ground) in the CEM when full lights are on. This is to activate a relay that will power a light bar or whatever lights you want to fit. Plenty of info on that here...

7 - Speed limit removal. Why? Because we can!

There are hundreds of parameters that can be changed. Most you won't want or need to change but there are many worth changing. I have a few big experiments planned and hopefully the freedom that OrBit gives us will inspire some serious creativity.

I hope everybody will roll in with their experience, tips and tricks. It's open season!!

Amazing ! So you can add the drive modes just by changing to a whee enabled panel even if your car did not come with it originally !
For a 2022 AAOS I don't know. Mine is 2019 Sensus car of which most came from the factory with drive modes. My car was unusual in not having them.

Are there other 2022s that have drive modes but yours doesn't?

I tried changing the level to level 2 and the ESC warnings kicked in. Once reverted back, all was well again.
I got those warnings for ESC and parking brake etc when I activated drive modes. Seemingly when a config is changed that has to do with braking it throws some errors but they can be cleared. The following is an excerpt from an email I got from Orbit support when I asked about this...

"The root cause is the brake/ABS ECU, the BCM or BCM2, must have it's config "cleared" when changes that affect it are made. There is a button in OrBit, on the shortcuts tab "ABS clear config" which will do that."

Try that fix when you change the PA level again.

I tried only the R-Design theme but nothing changed. Can you show your what I looks like?
It's very subtle. Just flashes up 'Excellence of Sweden' and an emblem on the dashboard upon first entering the car.

Wouldn've this work for Drive Modes without the switch? Did you try it like this or just revert back?
I didn't know about the 'clear ABS config' trick when I first tried to enable drive modes without having the switch/wheel (Starter switch module) fitted. But no drive modes button appeared on sensus anyway. In fact, quite the opposite, the eco drive mode and hill descent assist buttons actually disappeared. The ESC and parking brake errors were a problem but the main problem was that there weren't any drive modes available as there was no way to select them.

However, when I fitted the drive modes switch and then used Orbit to enable drive modes, the errors showed again but drive modes worked perfectly and the car drove fine with the errors present. I then cleared the codes using 'clear abs config' and now the car was error free with drive modes working perfectly.

Well, Volvo decided that the guy that bought the car before me should pay for nothing. They decided to remove the feature for those that don't have fully powered parking heater (the parking climate that is)
I looked for a way to bring it back but no succes. Even the discussion with them was really bad, canceling the chat before they even explained why. Just "yeah, its gone"

Interesting. My 2019 V90 does not have a parking/auxiliary heater. I can remote start the engine to heat the car. It's great.

You should change the setting in OrBit to 'with remote start'. Then disconnect your car from the app, delete the app, reinstall the app and connect the car afresh.

In wonder if the region designation of the car has something to do with it? Maybe remote start is not allowed in some places due to emissions regulations. It would be absurd but its possible.

That would be what Volvo was saying through the Chat Service. Germany based cars aren't allowed (which I also read online as well) but there should be a way to activate it hopefully
The German government bans preheating cars while simultaneously recommissioning coal fired power stations

Yes and no 😅
I just used the Chat Service from Volvo Cars app and the guy said that my car doesn't have fuel powered Heater, only "Afterrun" which I saw in OrBit but I think they might be different system. Anyway, not having that, the app won't let me Remote Start to heat/cool the cabin. After telling him that some people also don't have that he said that maybe they retrofitted and they don't know 😅
Also yes, you are not allowed to Remote Start (only) the car in Germany but if you pay for fuel powered Heater you can (which uses a lot more fuel to keep the car running and also the heater!!!! make it make sense). So basically if you are poor its illegal, if you have money its not. Ooo Germany and its beautiful laws 💙

What OrBit says about your car for Parking Climate or Heater (don't remember exactly) fuel powered or afterrun? And for "Remote Start"? Maybe you do have it 😅
I'll check the settings later. I don't have a parking/auxiliary heater but I'll se what my remote start settings are.

License only restricts the "flashing", i.e. changing config. Diagnostics, which is being grown, you can connect any car, as long as you have OrBit already licensed.
Can somebody who isn't licensed for flashing, and never has been, connect their car to Orbit to look at the possible configurations? It might be a good way of a answering a lot of the questions popping up here related to what might be possible.

do I need a high current power supply to keep things alive while PIN decoding is going on? Or can I just run from the battery while this happens?
The pin retrieval is not done by brute force so you won't even be connected to the car to retrieve the pin.

Also, is it necessary to be hooked up to power or will the battery be sufficient to power things for a config change? I have a list of the things I plan to do so I can move quickly.
The config changes only take a couple of minutes. However it is good practice to use a power supply when working on a car's computers. The penalty for the car shutting down during programming could be enormous. I'm sure most people get away with it but I would hate to be the one that doesn't

Hmmm... Not sure what you mean by "RoW" but it would be a shame if my USA version headlights don't do this - it's a pretty cool feature. I'm also curious to learn a little more about the Polestar transmission map that @Zen_Speedmaster referred to in post #1 of this thread. This is all sounding very interesting!
It seems that at least the transmission part of polestar optimisation is is already there in the TCM (transmission control module) and simply needs to be enable. My car is driving much better since enabling it.

Mine are exactly the same style and format as this. I'm curious about the unused portion at the bottom right. I assumed they were blanks that were used in a higher spec headlight model.

When I change from high beam to low beam and vice versa my lights dance a bit which leads me to believe that they could adapt...

I added them and I'm very glad I did. I use them fairly regularly and the R-Design steering wheel I fitted is much nicer than the standard steering wheel. I found instructions online for swapping the steering wheel. It was very straightforward. Enabling them with Orbit is a piece of cake and only takes a couple of minutes.
