Yes, I've been having the same issue.

 

When I grab the handle to unlock the vehicle, it takes about 5+ seconds to unlock and multiple grab attempts.

I'm not sure this is a fob battery issue, as if for example I drive to the store and come back out, it works immediately. It always seems to be worse after a day or so of the vehicle not being used.

Does anyone else experience this?

This past November, my driver door handle was replaced because it was not retaining the code or something to that effect.

I was not able to replicate in front of the Volvo service center, despite 3 + reports to them. I had changed my Key FOB battery and emptied my pockets of Bluetooth devices (e.g.,Tile, Apple AirPods and case). I still sporadically encountered the issue.

Fortunately, in November, the Volvo service center actually encountered the same problem for themselves. They said the handle was not "holding the codes" and they replaced it (under warranty).

You probably know/have tried this already but I believe mobile phones can interfere with the signal. If I have a problem I normally find that moving my mobile phone from my right pocket (closest to the car) to my left hand or left pocket fixes the issue. This may or may not be your problem but worth a try.

 

I’ve noticed this happening recently too. It takes a few pulls on the handle before it unlocks the door. Or need to unlock via the key fob button.

Was curious if this might be related to fob battery.

I was having similar issues so I finally changed out the battery with an IKEA battery that I had in my drawer. The problem persisted. I was ready to go to the dealer but bought a new Eveready battery, one of their better ones, and the problem went away. It walrus like new. YMMV

 

My unlock button on key fob doesn't work reliably in morning now. But after a trip it becomes much better. This makes it hard to diagnose. Maybe I will try a new battery first.

I have the exactly same issue. I could not use my key to unlock the car in the morning, but my wife's key works fine. So every morning I have to use my wife's key to open the door first. My key will then work fine for the whole day. Really weird experience, not sure how to fix it.

 

Check the remote battery. According to Volvo, it needs to be between 2.7v and 3.3v. However, I have had customers with complaints about remote function with voltage around 2.8v to 2.85v that I've replaced the battery for with no further problems.

Fair enough. There could be a terminology or translation gap. The service advisor indicated that it was not holding or retaining the code. Maybe they meant "receiving" the code.

I definitely replaced multiple key fob batteries - verifying that the last Duracell I installed had five years before the expiration.

I have not ever had my Key FOB not work. My issue was that the proximity sensor on the driver's door was not allowing me to open the locked door with a touch. No other electronic devices of any kind except the Key FOB in my pocket or around me.

The bottom line my issue, similar if not identical to OP, has completely gone away with the replacement of the driver door handle.

I explain this, not to be argumentative, but to be informational.

I’ve observed if you quickly pull on the handle (like when you’re in a hurry) it doesn’t always unlock. Merely placing my fingers lightly on the inside of the handle works 100% of the time. My wife had problems on our V90 until I demonstrated what I learned.

It could absolutely be an antenna issue. I wasn't trying to say it couldn't be. But if anyone has this problem with a cheap volt meter, checking the battery voltage is a simple place to start.

 

I also had this issue... replacing the FOB battery (factory one) fixed it. FYI

 

sofar, every time I had fob problems, changing the battery fixed it immediately. Until I bought a blister of IKEA batteries that are so lame they last nothing and reach the threshold of "working-non working" very fast (couple of months). Duracell fixed that problem as well never again IKEA batteries!!

 

I had a similar experience, only with a new battery that I bought years ago. Replacing it with another new one I just bought worked just fine. It is possible that some (previously unused) batteries may not provide sufficient voltage for the remote after being stored for a long time.

I have the same issue, my key seems only has trouble in the morning while the car is parking in the garage. The weird thing is that my another key just works fine.

 

Have you tried replacing the battery? I'd noticed that behavior with the sport key a couple of years ago and it was as it's battery voltage began declining. It would work more reliably when I held the key in my hand as I pulled on the door handle to unlock. Eventually when weak enough there was a message in the DIM indicating the Key Fob Battery Low at which point my dealer replaced it. If it's your regular key as opposed to the sport one, try a new 2032 battery in it.

 

I know this doesn't make 100% sense but maybe some form of interference? . Do you have the same problem in the morning if you park in a different location? (just trying to eliminate variables). I assume your mobile phone isn't close to the key at the time?

 

Change the battery. Period.

I am having the same issue with a 2020 XC60 T8.

 

Welcome to Swedespeed. First thing to do is change the remote batteries.

 

And get a good one. Don't buy from Amazon.

I had a key fob issue for the first time today. After driving for about an hour and then leaving it parked for an hour, I went to open the car door and it wouldnt open. I tried all the handles and eventually tried using the key fob buttons, but nothing worked. Unlock, lock, panic, trunk, nothing worked at all. I eventually took out my phone and used the Volvo app to unlock the car and the car started normally with the key in the car. The battery is good so I have no idea what went wrong. Its been fine since after running a few more errands. Im using an energizer cr2032

 

I've had cell phones and other electronic devices partially or completely lock up and become unresponsive. The fix was a complete shut-down. Possible removing and reinstalling the remote battery would have solved the problem too.

 

Keep your cellphone and Bluetooth items separated from your key fob and have the key fob closest to the door.

Change your key fob batteries every two years to minimize your risks.
