Inscription or R-Design?!

Hi, I am thinking of buying an XC90 this year. I probably will spend loads on it too and keep it for the next ten years.

Looking at the spec options, I am torn between the Inscription and R-Design trims. I think the R-Design looks great with the blue paint and 22 inch wheels. But the interior is a bit too dark and doesn't get a heated steering wheel or massage/ventilated seats and more. I think the Inscription is good when specced right (Onyx Black, 22"s?)

So tell me, what made you go for the R-Design over Inscription or vice versa? I need to make my mind up!

I probably would have gone Inscript if I had know about the heated steering wheel. also the seats are more leather in the inscription than the fake (although comfortable) suede in the R.

Love the look of the r-design, but couldn't do the r-design seats as i have kids and i didn't think the material would clean well or hold up. Love the heated steering wheel on the inscription; dislike the chrome but it's ok. I just bought a pair of r-design wheels and it changed the look completely. Might also swap the front grill out for not much money and voila (inscription->r-design).

Do you have the ability to go to a dealer and sit in both?

I did not care for the look of the R-Design, especially the interior. I also wanted the lighter colored seats. When I was looking at a 2016, I was considering a T8 Momentum or Inscription. When I decided to get a 2017, Momentum was no longer a choice so I got Inscription. I really like the way it looks inside and out. The seats are comfortable and the performance of the T8 is great.

When I first went to the dealer I was looking for an Inscription model, but was very surprised by how attracted I was to the aggressive R-Design. I was leaning in that direction until a test drive when I felt like the seats (imo), weren't very comfortable. I hopped in an Inscription and the quality and comfort of the leather made all of the difference. It was like driving around in a high end spa. Settled into a loaded Black T8 Inscription and the rest is history. I smile every time I'm driving the car. As a long time BMW coupe driver who, "begrudgingly," upgraded to a family vehicle, I haven't stopped telling anyone who asks how much I love this car.

Good luck with your decision! Either way, you win...

I would have preferred the best of both trims, though. R-Design exterior aesthetics / color options with Inscription interior features (leather dash, ventilated seats).
+1. My ideal would have been R-Design exterior and Inscription interior. In the end, I went with Inscription as the interior is unparalleled.

Okay, I think I've made my mind up. I'm going for the Inscription purely because it has more things I would like in the car. Also, that interior is to die for.

I know everyone has a valid point for too much chrome in the Inscription, but I figure Magic Blue will go well with the Urban Style Bodykit. So now I am stuck on a colour!

This always seems to come down to exterior vs. interior "colors". If you just love the R exclusive red or blue that is a huge factor. Conversely, if you really prefer the lighter blond or beautiful amber interior then there's that. I'm really disappointed Volvo only offers the RD cars with the solid black interior. I would love to see the bursting blue paired with amber... :(

I'm the opposite of most of you guys. I chose the R-design because of the sportier/more aggressive looking exterior (Don't care for all the chrome). Wanted bursting blue but none were available in my area at the time, so went with my second choice, crystal white. Also prefer black headliner and the R design seats, though I would have added ventilation to the seats and steering wheel/windshield heater if I could!

To each their own! Either way, they are great cars!

Definitely Inscription here. I paid for the car, I spend most of my time sitting in the driver's seat not looking at the outside. So for me, interior is everything on a car as long as it's not hideous outside. The R-design interior to me lost most of the interior appeal -- it looks like the inside of so many other boring black-inside cars.

If you don't care for chrome Inscription trim you could always ask the dealer to swap it or get it wrapped after purchase.

Easy. R-design if you are young, Insription if you are old. Literally or figuratively. I'm over 50 and the R sports seats took too much effort to get in and out of, especially when wearing a suit, and I prefer the softer ride of having a bit more sidewall on the tires. All the chrome reminds me of my youth in the 70's which is a good thing though the black out trim brings back the 80's sports car look too.
