Individual Drive Mode

I recently had my 10k service where they also updated the software in the car.

I'm not sure, but it appears that when I start the car it no longer chooses Individual Drive mode, instead it is at the default Comfort setting.

I am almost positive that before they did the update it was always in Individual mode.

I do have my key as it has my name on the screen when I get in. I have also saved my profile once again, but each time I start I have to select the drive mode.

Have I mis-remembered, or is it not saving my preference?

Mine has never started in individual. Always starts in comfort.

I thought it had to start in the same set mode because of the EPA estimates.

COMFORT is default drive mode

COMFORT
• This is the car's normal mode.
When the car starts, it is in Comfort mode and
the Start/Stop function is activated. These settings
mean that the car feels comfortable, the
steering is light, the shock absorption is soft and
body's movement is smooth.
This drive mode is the certification mode for carbon
dioxide emissions

It's still odd to me that the car has profile-specific settings saved to the key for minute things like the exact position of the thigh support and heated wheel sensitivity. But the car will not activate an individual drive mode that impacts the most noticeable elements of steering feel & drivetrain performance for a specific key.

If this is for EPA reasons, then maybe it should allow the auto-drive-mode setting if the individual selects [Eco]. Since that should be even more EPA-friendly than the default setting.

Unfortunately this seems to be something that also occurs in the XC90 as well. Those owners have to manually set the Individual mode every time they drive.

I know it is so odd, why have something called individual mode, where you set up everything the way you like it, but to be so annoying that you have to select it every time you start the frigging car.

I'm not sure how accurate it is to state that this is for the EPA, as you can change it so it would accomplish nothing to default to it.

Yet the same thing does not apply to the auto start stop, which is also contained in the same panel as the other selections, yet it remembers this and does not activate it automatically.

But at least I am not going crazy thinking that it used to work this way until after my service.

[This post will be in the T8 PHEV vernacular, my apologies in advance for any confusion this causes and I would suggest using Google Translate if it's not clear]

The vehicle obviously needs to boot up every time in the driving mode that would get the MPG rating on the Monroney, this is obvious if a little annoying.
The more annoying thing is that you can't default to Pure mode, and you can't default to Individual if configured to Hybrid or Pure.
Like...that extra step in programming logic is beyond Volvo and every other traditional car manufacturer...???
This is the kinda thing that some Tesla owner tweets to Elon Musk and he says 'yeah, that totally makes sense' and it shows up in an OTA update in a few weeks, and the frustrating thing is that there's no rational reason why everybody else can't do the same damn thing.
And please don't get me started on Volvo not offering free software updates anymore...
