It appears that I need a slave cylinder and clutch replacement on my 05 R. Does anyone have any suggestions for repair facilities in the Columbia, MD area? Independent that may save me a little money? Or is it off to herb gordon volvo in silver spring?

I hate to do it. But I go to the dealer. Herb Gordon is the least evil in the area. The service from the other dealer's isn't worth the extra drive. I just don't trust anyone else but the Volvo techs to work on my R. I drive my car too aggressive to trust anyone else. I know it isn't a guarantee, but its the best I can get.

Edit: Also, if you go to Herb Gordon you need to print out the online coupons and such. They give discounts on parts and labor. It can really help with the costs.

Nick at Herb Gordon is a great tech, Dom Beyer of Dulles in VA is great as well just as for BJ in service, both mod friendly. I have called Viking in Chantilly and they would not even touch/look at my modded 06 S60 R

when I asked them and they are right around the corner from where I work.

Nothing less than the best for my R. I've taken my S60 R to them for many repairs and have driven back satisfied every single time. Just be careful if your car is lowered.. I have Evolve springs on mine and the front rubs slightly when pulling into their garage (with little or no damage of course).

Without a doubt, you should go to ATSPEED Motorsports. Right in your (our) backyards. http://atspeedmotorsports.com/ Call up "ANDY" and tell him what 's going on. It's worth checking out their facility if you have a chance. They are right off of Rt 100 on Coca Cola Drive, near the BW Parkway.

Herb Gordon to me is one of the worst. Their working conditions are horrible the mechanics seem like serfs. The service people lie except the service manager Joe and my experiences were all in warranty. Bill Kidds also won't do the right thing when it comes to warranty work. Their techs agreed with me on an issue yet one said she was never in the vehicle when Regional called them.

How do people live with themselves. They are out to make a profit. Why not do it with great service and respect. Makes you want to buy a new/used car from them then have it serviced there.

The Best! Annapolis Volvo. They won't argue with you and will attempt to do what's right. They have been fantastic. Their shop is very clean and the techs seem happy.

I have had great service from ATSPEED. The Volvo Transporter was there. You could do brain surgery in it's shop portion.

I recommend Ed Coby in Annapolis first, and then Annapolis Volvo. I have used him for 3 Volvo's and he has always come in at lower cost than a dealer, with higher quality work and great followup. Talk to him about your issues and see what he quotes you: (410) 266-6690‎. Annapolis Volvo is a good dealer (highest volume Volvo dealer in MD), but you are going to pay dealer rates.

He is also pretty much the only choice for RWD Volvo's ... but has an outstanding depth of knowledge of everything from P1800's to R's. For any sort of work (especially scheduled maintenance) that is not covered under a warranty - you will pay half to 3/4 as much going to him. Good example: 580 dollars for a total break replacement and system flush on my old 940 - Volvo of Annapolis quoted me $1400.

He's located right off 50/301, at the Parole (West St.) exit.

Not happy at all with Darcars Volvo in Rockville - service writers and techs seem not to know the R or S60.

I have had good results from the Scandinavian Import Servicenter that is located virtually across the street. Phil is the service writer I work with.

The best bar none is Straightline Auto in Elkridge. They specialize in Volvos. There are things that the independents can't do like Vadis stuff but for all other things John Taybor's Straightline is it. 410-796-3378. Their body work looks like you never ever damaged your car. They can match silver paint!
They are honest. They will not suggest something that your car doesn't need. Conversely if they know you well they will while doing some other work, replace a hose or a belt on your daughter's car because they know you want her safe.

I sent my friend there. She has a Toyota minivan with a broken rear latch so she couldn't open it.
The dealer quoted her $450 repair (3 hours labor). She refused. They said, "it's going to be difficult to get the inside panel off".
She went to Straightline. Read a book and 45 min. later they walked in and said, "we had a hard time getting that inside panel off." Total bill? $150.
