How useful is 360 camera/advanced package?

Trying to figure out if advanced package is a must have for me. Am mostly interested in the 360 camera and HUD.

How useful is the 360 camera? What do you get if there is no 360 camera, there is just no camera in the front, but still alerts if you are about to bump into something?

It's nice, and it's not a big bump in price for what you get. That being said, yes you still get the sensors on a new car (2020 you needed advanced package to get the sensors too, which was stupid). The HUD is really handy if you're using factory navigation in heavy traffic areas, otherwise it's meh... plus, if you have polarized glasses it will be hard to see since the glasses reduce glare, and HUD is literally glare. Personally I wouldn't call it a deal breaker on the XC90... but on the smaller cars where you get adaptive cruise added with it, then it's a must have for me.

I have 360 in my Rav4 and it's become a deal breaker for me. Granted, my depth perception isn't the best but I also use it for how close am I to the curb/to the front and back markers when parallel parking. The audible warnings don't provide that and I often don't know if I trust the audible in cases of turns where only a corner of the car might be close to an obstacle.

We have the 360 camera in the 2017 (OSD individual option) and the 360 camera with advanced package on the 2021. The 360 camera is great! Volvo's system is a little behind though. There's no option to have both the backup camera and 360 camera on the same screen like many other manufacturers have.

One observation of differences: the 2017 doesn't have the parking sensors that the 2021 does have. This gets really frustrating in the 2021 every time I pull into our garage. The sensus screen jumps from the camera view to the parking sensors continuously. The sensors take over whatever is on the Sensus screen and will continue to do so until you're in park. Or when you manually turn the sensors off.

Also, I highly recommend having a protective film over the front camera, and even the side cameras under the mirrors. The 2017's has small chips in the lens that might have been mitiated if it had a clear film over it.

I have, use constantly and love them all!

Would really miss it if my next car didn't have them.

Great tip on the film protection of the lenses.

I think 360 camera is a must in 2022, especially for a big car. I wouldn't buy one without it. The only exception to the rule was my Tesla Model 3 and I miss this feature a lot, especially given that it sits pretty low and it's easy to scratch the underside of the bumper if you get it over the curb. Ultrasonic sensors don't see the curb once you get too close.

I had 360 camera in my Mazda CX-9 and it made parking in tight spaces so much easier! I have it in my new X7 as well.

Volvo's 360 is nice, the stitching is probably the best out there, and it displays larger area around than other brands, but it would be great if they supported combined views. Not easy to do due to a vertical layout, though. And I wish Volvo had a physical button to turn on the camera view.

On the 2022 at least there is a touch button on the main screen for quick access.
That's also a good point. 21's and back you have to swipe to get the camera. I'd really like an easy single button to access it.

I think it's going to be subjective to the driver's preference. Personally only use it once in a while to check those odd parking situations. The parking sensors I find are way more useful when trying to park into a tight spot. I don't think I would trust 100% the 360 view because the cameras might not be super accurate and there is some margin of error. But its definitely a nice to have when you need it.

Getting used to the car the 360 camera is great. Was using it in the drive through to make sure I don't rash those 21's the first month.

Regarding the HUD, was sad my Maui Jim's don't work. Great optics.
I bought some reasonably nice golf glasses with good optics that are non-polarized. They work great. From what I can tell, the full "PeakVision" line is like that, and it doesn't appear to be luxottica crap.

The "auto tilt down rearview mirrors when in reverse" function is pretty solid too.

If the price for the advanced package is not a significant concern, go for it. I've gotten so used to the 360 Camera on my MY18 V90CC that I won't (rather, cannot) park my car without using one. I don't know how I'd park my previous cars, which had no cameras.

As for the HuD, it's beneficial as well. I like that it gives you the info you would want when driving (speed limit, your current speed, and directions if using the Volvo Maps). A thing to remember is that if you drive around wearing Polarized sunglasses, you might not be able to see the HuD clear and sharp in bright sunlight.

IMO both are excellent options to have & use and make your Volvo even more complete.
