How to disable Traction Control Completely?

Searched around but couldn't find a specific year answer. Does anyone know what fuse it is on an 2006 SR?

Reason, I signed up for a winter autocross event. Extremely limited number of cars, I figure this is the best time to really work on and enjoy the car abilities in it's raw state. I know this disables ABS as well, which I'm fine with since this is a closed course and sliding/learning control is the objective (Not to mention plenty of stopping room). I have Blizzaks so even locking up a bit is fine, I want to really get acquainted with the cars natural abilities. I had the ABS removed (It was awful anyways) on my Rx7 an it was fun/scary but a great lesson in honing driver craftsmanship to a razor sharp point. I'm firm believer in learning your cars limits on a safe closed course, of course.

I think it's TRACS you need to disable along with DSTC.

Supposedly the R's have stability control and traction control (TRACS). I don't have a manual near me though. I remember early reviews complaining about not being able to fully disable traction control.

Here's what happens when I completely disable DSTC. I have all the fun I want with stability control and traction control completely disabled. Power is fed to all 4 wheels because the DEM and AOC are doing their jobs by reading the wheels speed sensors and redistributing power accordingly. Notice rear wheels spinning immediately at launch (start of video and 4:06 mark). ABS is still active.

When I'm sideway the yaw (Correct me if I'm wrong) sensor is going off. I see the light flashing on the dash an thats with a 5 times DTSC disable. I ideally want to feel how the car is with everything off an then with just all traction control systems including yaw off.

Every time I'm passed a certain angle point over 90 I'd say it kicks on. On all those J/U turns it kicks on hard, I'm not sure if it has to do with the surface grip (hitting patches of asphalt) but it always kicks on. I'm almost 100% manual is alot less restrictive then auto.

Volvo DSTC Off Tutorial - S60R V70R

Note: Key to doing this right is to press the DSTC button _and_ to HOLD IT DOWN FOR ONE SECOND at each press of the button as to when turning the DSTC function into "Reduced" mode.

The sequence looks like this... 1 sec. press ["DSTC Reduced Function"] + Press to re-enable + 1 sec. press ["DSTC Reduced Function"] + Press to re-enable + 1 sec. press ["DSTC ANTI SKID OFF"]

A total of five presses against the DSTC button, to which the green indicator light in the button will turn off twice and return on twice through the process.
All of this is covered in the owners manual.

The timing is necessary as if you muff it at any point/time within the button press effort you will need to start over. And yes it takes a little practice at first. Try it when you do not in the immediate need this function, as to then master it. Trying to do this when the car is stuck and you're feeling stressed/impatient will only doom you to fail...and curse the car/button.

Thanks but I know that already, read my post above /\

The Yaw of the car is still triggering a control mechanism. I want to fully disable the system.

I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked perfectly, thanks!

I'm afraid these are completely noob questions, sorry! I know that Traction Control cannot be disabled using the DSTC button, but I have tried to disable Spin Control. I followed the directions in my manual (2007 S60R) and it worked the first time including seeing the message, "DSTC SPIN CONTROL OFF." But, I can't replicate that. Now, any time I press the DTSC button once, I get the message, "DSTC REDUCED FUNCTION." The manual associates that message with turning off the AYC (even though the message in the car is "DSTC ANTI SKID OFF" as you state above).

So I'm confused  : what function is now reduced when I press the DSTC button once? Is it turning Spin Control off? Is it turning Spin Control off and reducing AYC? Only reducing AYC? Can I turn both Spin Control and AYC off?

I found this in another post from several years ago but no hard confirmation that this is true/accurate:

Pressing DSTC 1 x = "FUNCTION REDUCED" = Spin control off
Pressing 5 x = " OFF" = No Spin Control & No Stability Control.

Thanks!

Andy

They changed the wording in the DIM to "DTSC ANTI SKID OFF" from the original "DTSC SPIN CONTROL OFF" early on (near as I've been able to determine).

The "spin control" is the "anti skid"

Even if the system is disabled, it still uses ABS and the haldex to keep all the wheels rotating at about the same speed, its just no longer trying to keep the car from spinning around as the following vid demonstrates in both forward and reverse.
