"heated" windshield washer nozzles

Hi, I have question, does anybody know when windshield washer nozzles are heated? This morning after driving for 10-15min in 23 degrees I was trying to wash salt from my windshield but washer nozzles were frozen. Are those heaters supposed to work all the time, or only when defroster/ deffogger are on. My old (w/o climate pkg) Volvo's nozzles would only froze in single digits.

FAIK, those nozzles aren't heated at all. Nor can I recall Volvo offering heated washer nozzles on any car.

Actually, the 09 XC70 manual says:

Heated washer nozzles (option)
The washer nozzles are heated automatically in cold weather to help prevent the washer fluid from freezing.

I have no idea which "option" it comes with. It's not something you could choose separately when ordering the car.

Yup, you are right.
Part of the Climate pkg.
Not something we worry about in AZ.

I don't think we have that package up here, and I didn't see anything close to it even as a package. It must be included as standard on CDN cars?

From my experience being a BMW Parts Manager: if you have hard water at all, please use distilled water or alcohol-based washer fluid. Hard water cam leave mineral deposits and clog the nozzle for good.
