My headliner is falling down in several places and it is looking like time to replace the material. A replacement headliner is very expensive so I am thinking about DIY replace the fabric. Obviously, I want the color to match fairly well (Quartz Beige). I see kits available on-line but not sure how well they will match. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks
Stan

Do you have a Jo-Ann's Crafts near by? I bought my black material there, but they also had some other colors to choose from and it was only $10 per yard (expensive for material, but cheap for a headliner repair). It's super light weight headliner material, foam backed, and very easy to work with.

Melvin put together a great sticky on headliner removal and replacement, will be easier with the big hatch on your V50! He also discusses sunroof removal, which isn't nearly as scary as it sounds.

As for the adhesive, make sure you get the 3M headliner adhesive from Auto Zone (it will specifically say for headliners). It's not water based, so the glue will never evaporate and start to sag.

I know this post is several years old, but I would like to review the write-up. Can someone point me to the "sticky" section?

Thanks

Excellent! Thank you very much. I think I still have a Joann Fabrics near me.

mine is starting to sag in the rear as well. i guess 8-9 years is the life expectancy. Aldebaron's thread will be a lifesaver in a couple months when i tackle this....

The Joann's near me had 3 colors: black, beige and grey. The grey was quite a bit darker than my headliner material which is quartz. I'll have to keep looking.

Unfortunately headliner sagging is in major part due to high heat wear. I'm fortunate enough my car is in a garage most of the time, both at home than at work.
I feel for those who have to always park in the sun.

Furthermore if I had to spend the time redoing my car's headliner, no way would I put the same boring neutral grey... I remember Carrera's headliner design. That was quite refreshing (not my style but refreshing!) :)

I'd say just be a cool kid and get something that lasts a lifetime like Alcantara. It really does sharpen up the car, an they do come in lighter shades.

+1. I tried the DIY with the excellent write ups noted above, and naturally had a lot of imperfections that weren't that noticeable to most but drove me crazy every time I got in the car. Finally decided to pull it out and have the pros do it. I think it was about $90 to strip the old/add the new with their headliner material, same day. Very happy now.

Given today's COVID economy, I'm sure they would appreciate your business!

I went to a upick yard and pulled a good one for $20, installed it in my '05.

I got my headliner material from yourautotrim.com and went with the Flat Knit FN1927 Titanium. The also have the non-knit in the same color PH1927. It matches the original color fairly well. If you do the A-pillars, you won't notice any color difference. You can also order a color sample card if you want to go with something else.

"Stickies" mean that it is literally "stuck" to the top of the respective subforum. So if you ever see someone reference the stickies, it's going to be one of the first few threads displayed. :)

I just did mine twice. Once last year and then ago last month when I found the black Interior at junk yard

My local auto fabric warehouse had 3 blacks to choose from. I used the permatex headliner glue. $30 in material. Practice makes perfect. The second tome came out flawless because I saw all the mistakes to avoid on the first run. The sun roof door was hard as I removed the whole sun roof to get access.
