Has anyone added Navigation to a non-Nav equipped XC60?

I was speaking to another Volvo owner who has a XC60 without the Sensus Nav. He asked if I knew of anyone who had paid to add Nav to their originally non-Nav equipped car? I personally do not, I did know someone with a Mercedes who did this and it was costly. He said the dealer he spoke with said it could be done IF the car had been pre-wired for Nav but was just not optioned with it. He said the dealer said that depending upon the options some cars have the supporting wiring to add Nav, so I wanted to ask here if anyone has or has known someone who has done this? He said it he was estimated around $1200 if it could be done. Sounds like a lot to me but its his wife's car and she wants an in-dash Nav. Happy wife, happy life.

If it had the Nav prep cable it is not difficult to do, that's the entire point Volvo did this. The dealers basically can add it to the car for the cost you would have ordered it from factory with, so $1200 is about what you could expect. I think is nice Volvo mad a provision for adding it at all, and it is reasonably priced. Try adding Nav to other brands and this would seem like a bargain. In theory a portion of the cost would be offset by increased resale. I have platinum with nav, and while not the best system out there (adding a destination isn't the best) once it's set it does a very, very nice job of guiding you around. I think people are pretty critical of the Volvo system for no reason....there are some pretty big shortcomings on a lot of nav systems out there in cars in this price range.

I just upgraded a 2011.5 D5 that have the Nav prep cable but didn't install the Nav due to the cost. There are 2 Nav options in Australia with Sensus connected touch with Nav or like the factory fitted Nav but either way was just under $3k. The customer purchasing the car decided they wanted the screen upgraded from the 5" to the 7" and have a reverse camera which I installed and the car has been sitting at the dealership since before Christmas as there is an issue with the software from the factory. They are waiting for new software to be written to enable the 7" screen/infotainment system to function. I did enquire about also fiting the Nav and then trying the software to see if that would work as most people would put in Nav if they were upgrading the screen.

Interesting....the 2011.5 had a 5" screen? All of the my11.5's here in the U.S. came with the 7" screens.

2015 XC60 Cable?

What if it didn't come with the cable? Can they add it? Also curious, where does the cable originate from?

My XC60 was the base model and I'd love to add a backup camera and nav with voice control, but I've been told my model doesn't offer the upgrade.

Another idea was to get all the salvaged parts needed, but don't know what that includes. Is there an exploded diagram that shows those systems?

Without the navigation prep package that has the car already wired for GPS etc, its not impossible but going to be incredible expensive. Suggestion in this case is to just buy a garmin or use your phone and find an app.

As for the back up camera, before you start buying parts, get a copy of VIDA and VDASH. Then start learning about the car. First place to look at is if you center screen has the correct inputs on the back for the camera cables. If yes, the rest can be pieced together from salvage cars and from buying the wiring harnesses from a dealer and VDASH to activate. Expect 8 to 10 hours if your patience and detail oriented, and you can make it work. As for parts, volvo used to have an accessory guide with instruction for all the add on parts...ie camera, back up sensors etc. Another place to look at for parts is us.parts.volvo. Look around for the camera kits and you should be able to find all the parts from the diagrams.
