USB 3 is backwards compatible with USB 2, so, that shouldn't be your problem. I've used a few sticks over the years and have never had issues. My current stick is a 64GB Samsung Duo Plus.

 

Do you know what your file system is on that stick? I should also note that the stick is readable on pc.

 

You use that to move music files? If so, maybe I need to try it out that way.

 

Per my experience, if the USB stick had previous files in it other than the Volvo map update, it will not work even after a clean reformat. I made the mistake of using my 64 GB stick to download something which I deleted afterwards and did a clean reformat. But when I tried to reuse it to update my map, the USB port in the car will not read it. Had to buy a new 64 GB USB stick for it to work again.

 

This is not technical at all. My USB drive has been used to do all sorts of things and still works after reformat, or just all files removed. Maybe your old USB drive somehow went wrong.

 

Try formatting it as FAT32, I think that's what I had to do with ours.

 

Yeah I tried that, no dice. Tried using the other stick that came in the bundle without doing a thing but putt music on it, also no dice. Thinking Sensus didn't like PNY...lol.

 

OK, I checked and ours is formatted FAT32 and is 64GB. I have the music in 3 folders on the drive. We had our XC90 retrofitted by Volvo (our 2016 model didn't come with 2 ports) to have the second USB port installed in the armrest for Android Auto/Carplay. That port has a white border around it. The USB stick plugs into the other port and the car is able to read the media.

 

Sorry I'm so late responding to this. I did know about the port specific requirement. So I ordered a Lexar brand USB stick, worked right out of the package. Maybe it was just the PNY drives or because this one is USB 3... who knows?
