the foil that covers the center portion of the wheel lifted from the wheel and split and created a nasty cut - I have since covered this with tape but I am looking for a more permanent fix. I have heard that this has happened to others too. Any suggestions for a good repair? See attached.

My trim around the steering wheel is not to bad yet. I can feel a little delamination at the bottom but the down shift paddle is bad and is sharp as a razor blade. Those things aren't cheap and I suspect not easy to replace. For now I will be working on a different fix. I did super glue the sharp edge down but don't know how long that will last.

The job is not hard. Literally half an hour.
These are around $50 or so. I have an extra one if you want to buy (I replace the ones that were in the post above with an R-Design version).

I've taken a Dremel to the flaking parts a couple of times by now. It may be time for the 3rd round, but as it's not my daily driver and my wife for some reason doesn't seem to mind, that's good enough.

P.S. p.rico: "The job is not hard."

Oddly enough, it was the only time I had cut my hand on the flaking electroplated aluminum.

But seriously, it’s very easy. Like stated earlier, just did it yet again about two months ago.

That's a safety feature from the fine folks at Volvo.

The idea is that you'll cut your hand while driving. You then lose control while struggling to grasp onto the blood-soaked steering wheel.
Once this fails, you proceed to crash and enjoy the multiple safety features your Volvo has to offer.

Yeah, that happened on my XC60 years ago. I just flake it off and make sure to avoid the bottom parts of the wheel. Of course I forgot to tell my 11 year old goddaughter this when teaching her to drive, and she ended up with a similar cut as you despite me repeatedly running my hand around and around the wheel to no effect. That poor kid is accident prone. :(

It is good to know that just the bezel can be purchased so I don't have to buy a whole new steering wheel, although the wood is starting to blister too. I may end up going down a rabbit hole here.
