And I thought the Audi book on the history of Audi was stupid! Volvo tops it big-time! http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif

What did you expect, a pen for your pen holder?

Yep....got 'em too. Heck, I even planted them in my front yard a few weeks ago. They haven't come up yet. I too would have preferred a pen or something useful. They're definitely still clinging to their tree hugger image!

I too received the welcome 'gift' -- Volvo is seriously after the tree huggers and I think it is working as many of my enviro friends lean towards a Volvo.

I am sorry but that is such a ridiculous an short-sighted statement...not that there is anything wrong with being envirnomentally conscious, huh? The term "tree-hugger" is used by those who are lazy and totally unconscious about the environment in order to put down those who care. Not everone is an extremist but there are MANY who are responsible. And that should be ONE of the MANY reasons why you would want to own/drive a Volvo. Not just for the fact of having a Volvo, or a car that is fast or whatever. Because the company has adopted a HOLISTIC approach in building a car (usually an oxymoron), operating its plants and also treating its employees.

Try being environmentally responsible, in your daily life; you may feel better about this world.

I didn't get a gift from Volvo, but my dealer sent us a really nice gift basket... tea and coffee, chocolates, biscotti, etc. I was really impressed.

I sure don't get the seeds thing...

Same here. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif Bet you bought from Calabassas motors.

I read once that Volvo coats their radiators with a special coating that reacts with the air flowing across it and produces ozone

Joking, right? It eliminates ozone. (ground level ozone is NOT good)

Am I the only one that RTFM?

PermAire II--once radiator is hot it destroys ozone as you drive--effectively destroying a part of air pollution while driving....

Very very cool!

I'm resonably sure the gift was symbolic to remind people of Volvo's commitment to preserving the environment. After all they are forget-me-nots. Cheap to be sure, but even the smallest effort can make a difference.

Volvo has done many things to improve the environment with little credit or fanfare. Switching to water based paint was a costly and technically difficult process, but it has removed tons of pollutants from the manufacturing plants' emissions. That's only one example.

I have to give credit to Ford as well. The PAG building in Irvine, where Volvo North America is headquartered with Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Land Rover, is one of only a hand full of buildings in the US to be certified as a green facility. It has a non polluting fuel cell which furnishes up to 25% of the building's power. It uses recycled water to supply the toilets (and rumored the coffee makers). The roof tops are covered with gardens to convert CO2 to O2 as well as climbing vines on a huge trellis to provide a green buffer between the building and the 5 freeway.

So accept the gift for what it is ..... a bit of symbolism. Plant the seeds and ask yourself "What little thing can I do to improve my environment?".
It doesn't take much if enough people do it.

I agree the key seemed lame, we got that as a party gift at the S40 driving event, but my girlfriend planted them and they were nice. So, could be worse.

I think they should send you a Minichamps model of whatever car you bought...now THAT would be a nice gift.

I think when companies have a lot of money, they should build green facilities. I love the outdoors and am definitely pro-environment. I just don't like most environmentalists

I agree and was happy to receive them! I'm planning on planting them with my 4 year old.
