I received this welcome letter from Volvo and in it was a biodegradable key shaped with "forget-me-not" seeds it it.
Call me cheap but talk about the stupidist welcome gift from a automanufacture ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I'm resonably sure the gift was symbolic to remind people of Volvo's commitment to preserving the environment. After all they are forget-me-nots. Cheap to be sure, but even the smallest effort can make a difference.
Volvo has done many things to improve the environment with little credit or fanfare. Switching to water based paint was a costly and technically difficult process, but it has removed tons of pollutants from the manufacturing plants' emissions. That's only one example.
I have to give credit to Ford as well. The PAG building in Irvine, where Volvo North America is headquartered with Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Land Rover, is one of only a hand full of buildings in the US to be certified as a green facility. It has a non polluting fuel cell which furnishes up to 25% of the building's power. It uses recycled water to supply the toilets (and rumored the coffee makers). The roof tops are covered with gardens to convert CO2 to O2 as well as climbing vines on a huge trellis to provide a green buffer between the building and the 5 freeway.
So accept the gift for what it is ..... a bit of symbolism. Plant the seeds and ask yourself "What little thing can I do to improve my environment?".
It doesn't take much if enough people do it.
