It could be that the US is getting the batch from China that Canada had to ditch. Our tariff rule on Chinese EVs is different from the US. Essentially anything that landed at port by I believe September 30th was grandfathered in, and anything after that would have the tariff. Canada ended up getting about 1300 cars land in time. Less than half remain so we'll end up with a gap here for sure.

In Canada there aren't any Volvo EV plants (or any plants for that matter) so there is no offset rule. The Polestar 2 is essentially going to be dead here once they sell out everything that has landed, Tesla has issues with it, and apparently it affects the Lincoln Nautilus too. Not sure who else though ...

Production in Ghent from what I understand doesn't start until August next year at least for our market.

I saw the EX30 on Volvo's builder this morning. While I totally get bringing the higher optioned car here first, paying $46k for a started EV isn't anywhere near as interesting as one for $10k less. Going 0-60 in 5.1 seconds with the single motor is just fine with me and I don't want a sunroof, lol.

Sooooo, was this just more blowing smoke (or maybe electrons?) on Volvo's part? We're now in the second half of December and there doesn't seem to be any obvious indication that deliveries will start in the U.S. soon.

I was at the local dealership last week and they talked about them getting there "soon" but at this point I'd be thinking first quarter (2025, lol).

lol if they go back on their plan to sell these in North America you might as well kiss Volvo goodbye in our market. They’re the only reason sales are up in Europe and key to building momentum for their EVs in other markets including ours. This car will be a huge success assuming they can keep price in the targeted range.

Volvo prepared for this. Something around 1600 cars arrived before the tariffs were put in place so they are grandfathered in. Fewer than 600 remain, once they're gone there will be a supply lull until we start getting cars from Ghent - production to start August 2025 so they'd start to land sometime in October.

Allocation of XC40 gas units is being cut for our market to compensate for this. Our pipeline is already reduced, probably because they are converting one of the lines to make it.

They should stop selling the gas XC40s. Just focus on EV for the EX40.

As for the EX30, once the subsidies stop, these will not be worth the price Volvo is asking and they will need to drop the pricing on them… Also these cars badly needs a HUD or driver display or even both!!!

They can't do that yet, at least not for most of the country. I think in Quebec as long as the provincial incentive is there they easily could, but outside of BC/QC the penetration of the 40 series on the EV side is actually lower than it is on the 60s and 90s as PHEVs.

With the 30s some people would just have to adjust to how they're done versus the 60s and 90s. And honestly, that's ok because the target customer for a 30 is way different than it is for a 60 or a 90.

I don't think HUD can be done on a 40 based on the windshield rake. On a 30 that's double - windshield rake and the soundbar at the base of the dash. The EX30 is a SMALL car and they wouldn't do a cheapie version of HUD that you find in some Kias and the like.

I did notice that some are starting to show up in dealer inventory in the states! Now it’s a race to see which I see on the road first - the 30 or 90.

So glad that I found this post! I have been looking for an update on US deliveries. I have a little less than a year left on my Model 3 lease and I'm trying to plan for the next vehicle. The Tesla charging network is the only way to go but most of the NACS planned conversions have the charge port in the wrong location.

Took delivery last week, I got the first one in Sarasota Florida. It's a little bigger than expected but I'm very happy with it. Black magic marker fixed the reflection of the Harmon radio logo. One peddle drive works great for me maybe the twin motor stops better than the single motor? I don't know why people say it needs a heads up display, I like the speed location, very easy to see.😎

I just saw / drove my first EX30 in Central Florida. I really liked the car but miss having a normal cubby under the arm rest! Wish that my Tesla lease was up this month.......

My viewpoint is pretty basic. I am leasing a Model 3 and the Volvo line is one of the few NACS adopters who actually have the charge door in the same location as the Tesla. BIG DEAL RIGHT? Well, with more and more non Teslas beginning to use the Supercharger network it actually is! Most of these other cars and trucks actually have to take up TWO charger spots due to the short Supercharger cable. You have 2 non Teslas charging and 4 spots are blocked! Tesla says "this is OK" but they are not the ones waiting in line to charge. The last thing I want to do, when on a road trip, is to promote bad vibes with the locals as I block their charging availability.

My local finally got one of these in. Going to swing by on my way home from work to check it out...excited to finally just be able to see one of these in person.

Dealer called while I was driving over to tell me it sold. Didn't last long!

Could it be that cars that aren't "real Volvo's" sell better than Volvo's?

A BEV at this price point will be about conquest sales - many buyers maybe don't want to be driving their grandpa's Volvo anyway.
