Hello, Recently Volvo service replaced the ERAD on my 2016 XC90 T8. I would like to know the reliability of the new ERADs? Did any once replace the ERAD multiple times? Or anyone replaces ERAD on newer model XC90 T8s? Thanks.
Yikes. That’s totally unacceptable. Was it all covered under the VIP at least? Hopefully only one deductible for them, if you have a deductible.60k miles now and time for my third ERAD replacement. Didn't even make it 10k on this most recent one.
We're a Volvo specialist and have sold approximately 100 XC90 T8 Hybrid and 10 XC60 T8 Hybrid, strangely I've never encountered an issue with the XC60 T8 Hybrid ERAD, however the XC90 especialy the 2016/2017 cars, are pretty much guaranteed to go wrong within 6 years. Personally I've repaired at least 15 at Volvo, with various contributions due to age. I've also had one 2018 car with an ERAD fault, which is strange as Volvo originally blamed a faulty batch of circlips in the 2016/2017 cars. Also worth noting is the BHP is reduced in 2017 67 reg cars from 401bhp to 390bhp, was this to reduce stress on the ERAD? The repair is ÂŁ3000 at Volvo, and ÂŁ6000 if they also diagnose the Hybrid Motor at fault or whining. Volvo offer 100% cover for the failure up to 4 years old, 50% contribution 4-5 years old, then a sliding scale after 5 years old depending on VOLVO service history. this failure has nothing to do with mileage, I've had cars with 35,000 miles fail and 95,000 miles. I've actually got one now and unfortunately have repaired at least 1 XC90 per month for the last 4mths. My warranty company hate them, they're worst than LAND ROVER product for failing, but annoyingly only on this one particular expensive part. As good as Volvo are with their contribution, they are well aware of this fault and should have recalled all XC90 T8 Hybrid, and fixed them, it's clearly a design fault from new, lets hope the new EX90 full electric won't be such a let down. If it is Volvo's reputation in the prestige car market will not recover from it in my opinion!Hello, Recently Volvo service replaced the ERAD on my 2016 XC90 T8. All those ERAD problems were caused by this?Volvo originally blamed a faulty batch of circlips in the 2016/2017 cars. Here's how ERAD is addressed in USA MY23 XC90 warranty - I assume this is full coverage for 8 yrs/80k miles/130k kilos -The repair is ÂŁ3000 at Volvo, and ÂŁ6000 if they also diagnose the Hybrid Motor at fault or whining. It’s almost like GKN Automotive and Volvo didn’t consider long term reliability of this complex system, coupled with the sheer weight of the XC90. I still can’t believe those small gears are solely pushing the car when in battery mode. Or when AWD is needed in slippery conditions. The complexity is not worth the gains, IMO.We're a Volvo specialist and have sold approximately 100 XC90 T8 Hybrid and 10 XC60 T8 Hybrid, strangely I've never encountered an issue with the XC60 T8 Hybrid ERAD, however the XC90 especialy the 2016/2017 cars, are pretty much guaranteed to go wrong within 6 years. Clutch. Not covered as I know. Oil is serviceable. Are most failures in the “transmission” and thus not subject to hybrid warranty? Not sure what the correct terminology is for the gear section of the ERAD
So ERAD has a clutch that isn’t deemed part of ERAD, that’s what fails and isn’t covered? Sneaky.Clutch. Not covered as I know. Oil is serviceable.
Hey, I have recently been advised that we need to replace the ERAD in our 2018 Volvo XC90 and I was given a quote of $8000! The dealer told me that it was okay to drive the car in "power" mode while I figured out what we are going to do. I love the car and want to keep it but want to find a better price than $8k and am looking for a good mechanic to do the job. Recently I have started hearing a clunking sound, even when the car is in "power" mode. It's not consistent but it does happen. It feels like it needs more transmission fluid, so I have stopped driving it. Any ideas/thoughts/etc...?I've done a couple and my dealer has probably done 10. Haven't had one come back.
Reading the terms again, and for everyone's reference, found the warranty manual here: https://volvornt.harte-hanks.com/manuals/2023/Volvo_MY2023_Wty_Manual_WTY570_WEB_06-02-22.pdfAll those ERAD problems were caused by this?

Did your dealer say it's not covered by the 8 yr warranty (for emission or hybrid battery)?Hey, I have recently been advised that we need to replace the ERAD in our 2018 Volvo XC90 and I was given a quote of $8000! Was it out of commission during the back and forth or did you approve the work while they sorted it out?Had a 2016 ERAD with 70k replaced in 2022 under hybrid warranty. Took a bit of back and forth.
