Ordered my Bursting Blue T6 R-Design today, and I love the colour and the gloss-black bits, but wish the gloss black would be available on more instead of the satin chrome look. I'm really not into the chrome look, especially the chrome mirrors! So I want to put gloss black on:
- Wing Mirrors
- Window surrounds
- Front Grill surround
- Roof Rails
- Volvo badge(s) on the rear

Dealer said it wasnt an official option, but thought it seemed something that they could paint. I'm not sure whether it was just talk to keep the sale going, or whether they do genuinely offer bespoke painting service. Anyone done this yet, and used the dealer or aftermarket specialist?

Many new car dealers do offer body shop and paint services, so I'm sure it can be done. And if they don't, they'd just farm out the work to a local shop and and add a surcharge to the bill. I'm sure it would cost you less if you just took your own car over to a local paint shop. Nice ride BTW!

I agree Volvo should add the black out option to the R-Design! I'm not a fan of the silver satin colour on the mirrors, roof rails, around windows, etc.

You could diy vinyl or plastidip in any color you want. The nice thing is both options are easily reversible.

Yeah, I say Vinyl wrap those pieces! as sucky Volvo says it looks great and can easily go back to stock.

Hmmm. Have you seen the mirrors? They are not even close to chrome in the US. Maybe they are different in the UK? Here they are actually a matte finish and look pretty sharp in person (at least in my opinion!). Overall, I do think a more subdued / stealth option for the R would be nice. I actually ordered Osmium Gray Mettalic to help "fade in" the chrome accents and I'm glad I picked this color... The wheels and accents all kind of meld it together with the paint nicely. But I see how the items you describe pop more against the blue...

I went with a vinyl wrap to black out my v40 RDesign. You basically achieve the same look as paint but it is easily and cheaply reversible/repairable.

I went with a brushed black metallic instead of gloss black. Looks black from a distance but has an awesome look in the sun and from close up.

Sorry, bad use of the word 'chrome', I just meant silver-looking.

I like the idea of vinyl, but it sounds very difficult to do. How do you manage to get a smooth, joinless and creaseless finish on a mirror given there are so many angles and bends to fit? All the other bits look difficult to do too.

I had it done by a professional, no way that I would have got it perfect.

The vinyl is heated during application to enable a perfect fit and you always take a piece large enough to cover completely. If you damage the vinyl, just pull off the whole piece and re-wrap (i.e. the mirror, door or the bonnet). You should easily find a wrapper somewhere near where you live for a quote, it is very much "in style" so a lot of small businesses in that field. From your Username I would put you in the UK and the most "famous" wrapper there would be http://yiannimize-refined.com (located in London)

I paid around €270 for my window trim, mirrors, front grill, rear diffuser and lettering on the back.
