Delay after you floor the pedal?

Does anybody else experience this? When I floor the gas pedal, the car takes some time (maybe half a second, maybe less) before it does anything.

Ie complete nothing - as if it ponders whether it feels like accelerating and then makes the decision to go along with my plan.

Do others notice this? I'm not much of a racer but it just feels unsettling to have this pause while you wait for the car to acknowledge your pressing on gas, hard.

Can something be done about it?

Have you tried this in Power mode? Granted, I'm driving a T8, but mashing the accelerator in Power mode on a T8 is pretty immediate, and quite impressive.

the delay MAY be due to low RPM when flooring the gas pedal .. takes the transmission a moment to downshift... you can get rid of the delay by downshifting to raise the RPM before flooring the gas pedal ... Our second car is a 2014 Corvette Stingray with an automatic transmission and I learned early on to downshift before passing.

I have found most cars have a delay if you immediately floor the pedal, including the Volvo but also most of my previous ones. The Volvo more so. But I get much better results if I don't completely floor it but apply some initial acceleration then floor it after it initially responds.

That has been the case with ALL Volvo turbocharged cars. One should never mash the gas pedal down; 1/2 down and a half second later you can floor it. Almost like when an airliner takes off; pilots never load up the throttle right away.

you guys forget, that there is a blower on here as well and and it gets decoupled.

i don't feel zero power loss, but you can feel the power transfer when you floor it.

this is how i've felt this is done.

1. Floor Pedal - Supercharger surges - but it hits its max IFU which shoved a ton of air for the turbo to kick in. however, in the same process, the supecharger needs to decouple - THEN turbo kicks in, then power.

these cars are horrible off the line (but that's not why you bought them.) But on my 4 hour drive, I will say, the volvo's chassis and body dynamics make it very stable to drive at 85-95MPH for long stints (in my case nearly 90 minutes - on mountain roads)

You really ought to qualify that statement as there's nothing "horrible" about the XC90 acceleration.
It's not a Ferrari, but it's most certainly not slow or cumbersome from a stop. I don't drive it even remotely hard, but I'm usually out front off the line compared to normal sedan/suv.

When I made a test drive with the first XC90, a car came from the right at a crossing. I slowed down
and then saw that the other stopped. So I decided to drive on, but the first moment nothing happened.
The engine revved but the car didn't accelerate, instead it "hesitated". That is what I really don't want,
it is the reason I didn't spend a few thousand dollars (in fact it were Euros :)) for the automatic transmission.
If this behavior is still the same in the current Volvo automatics, I may have to look elsewhere.
Since I like Volvo's, I hope I won't have to do that

This is normal and should be expected for cars with an automatic transmission with torque converter.

It's the electronic and mechanical time taken to prepare for the WOT input from the engine.

If you want a hideous vehicle the Model X is for you.

I've seen two in the past week. Both times I thought I would never be caught dead in one.

That's unfair. They are totally different in idea. And honestly from the front and rear the model X looks pretty cool. But it's being inside that's the best.

I unfortunately have been a victim of the double vision windshield issue and am pretty turned off by it. But ludicrous mode in an engorged tick the size of the model X is pretty awesome

Engorged tick. That's exactly what it looks like. Thank you for that.

agree to disagree that some people may find that cool ;) LOL
