Cost of ownership of an S60R?

So in my search for exactly what car to buy after my 850 was totaled, I keep coming back to getting an S60R. The absolute ONLY thing holding me back on this is potential higher cost of ownership for an R model. I am used to pretty minimal repair bills but with heightened performance, I am sure comes much higher bills. I have an opportunity to buy an 04 with under 100k for 8k... This is quite tempting but wanted to ask you guys if you could compile the regular repairs at their intervals and costs of what I would expect if I owned one. Ie: Angle gear, any maintenance on 4c etc.
Thank you so much guys. Maybe I will end up with one but at the same time I dont have tons of money to put into one one periodically either.
Thanks

I would budget around $2k per year for repairs. You might do better, you might do worse. There will be a lucky few who have spent this amount over 5 years and then some who have spent much more than that.

no one should keep/buy any car if its going to cost them 2k a year....(short of a supercar).....That is bogus, you may need one ore two services over the life of the car totalling over 2k each, but think about it. do the brakes yourself you can get outta those for around 500 for a nice setup...A new set of 19" tires ran me 900 mounted and balanced. certainly I've spent 2k on the car, but certainly not in strictly maintenence (2k of personal sanity). The guys on the forum here can help a ton in mitigating costs and trips to the dealership. I was weary of cost of ownership as well going from a subaru to a volvo, but I am about to go into the dealer for the first time since buying my car, and its only going in to get the software update. Some R's are better than others but as long as you do your homework it will be a fun experience in these cars, they're great.....

There is a book just waiting to be written: "The Tale of Two RRs"

One CaR can go its entire life with only oil changes and regularly scheduled maintenance; the other caR can't go a month without something major going wrong.

I'm sure we all know about cars in both categories. It wouldn't take long to fill a couple dozen pages of the experiences of the owners in each category. If somebody wanted to know the cost of owning an R, we'd just direct them to that thread, tell them to grab a drink, and then wait.

It could prove very entertaining for us. For those looking to buy an RRR, anybody's guess.

1year.......4 rotors + pads, 5 ignition coils, 4 tires, 1 oil change (7k miles per year), for me its not the maintenance cost but the modification cost! If you buy sensibly, drive sensibly, warm the car before hard driving, allow it to cool afterwards and keep on top of maintenance you should minimize your cost of ownership.
I am at 103k miles with full dealer 7.5k service history from new and the car doesn't even burn any oil between changes. Shop around for the right car and it will save you money in the long run, maybe a bargain 8k car might not look such a bargain 1 year into ownership.

On a side note, i found this, high mileage for $5500 http://baltimore.craigslist.org/ptd/2795549866.html

With the mileage you're looking at, if the front struts(+mounts, spring seats, etc.) haven't been replaced and the timing belt has not been serviced, you'll probably have to set aside a little cash for that. If you want the car to ride well, be sure to inspect mounts and bushings. My control arm bushings crapped out at 122K.
Since you can do the work yourself, this could be a worthwhile buy for you. Before I bought my car last August I was told that if willing to do the work yourself, setting aside 2K/year will be enough.

There is a hidden cost too - you'll never be able to drive a "normal" car again.

Hah, ya thats actually a realistic other cost that I was thinking is the potential ticketing costs for not flying under the radar like I did with my sweet little 850. If I get time tomorrow I might drive and look at this 8k dollar wonder. Of course standing there in front of it may not be my safest idea for Not buying it but whatever.
