From what I've heard, cold air intakes are illegal in all fifty states in the US because it messes up the emissions.

Can anyone verify this? I was gonna get one too, drats!

I wouldn't think these are illegal. You just have to make sure they are emissions legal and you should be fine. There are various manufactures out there that produce a CAI and most of them (well, coming from the VW/Audi world) are emissions legal.

Who were you thinking of buying the CAI from?

Re: Cold Air Intakes illegal? (anony00gt)

I've never heard that anywhere they are illegal. They are considered an airfilter replacement and won't so much as effect the warranty. The only way this could effect the waranty is if the car manufacture supplied free airfilters, which they do not.
As far as emissions I know a few people with cones and cold air induction and pass the emmisions test. It only unrestricts the air some that a motor can use for combustion. It isn't going to overdraw or force more air or anything of the sort. Exhuast mods such as removing the catilitic converter is illegal. It will free up the exhaust like running a straight pipe but there would be no emmision test in the world you would pass.
