2005 V70 R

Anyone know how to change the cabin air filter out on the V70 R? Is it pretty simple/difficult?

How much do they cost roughly? The dealer wants like $90 to do it.
Service manual says its due at 45K

Very easy!

Let me search a tad....

Ah Ha:

Don't worry that the site is for the XC, the procedure is exactly the same.

Due MUCH before that (should be every season IMHO, or every other).

Start w/ a black garbage bag on the floor, as at 45K, it will be FILTHY!

Take off the panel to the left of the pass. seat (optional - there is a 1/4 turn plastic 'screw' just by the leg bolster - it slides forward then pulls towards you).

Take out the two Torx bolts (T25?) from the kick panel. Look up and you'll see a black cover on a white box - that's the cabin filter housing. Unscrew that and pull the filter down.

If you have non IAQS and are upgrading, take off the plastic blocking plates and file down the 'nubs' left to use the charcoal-activated filter. Otherwise, use the standard filter, or use the IAQS filter if you have that option - DO NOT INSTALL TWO FILTERS.

Reverse the above (but keeping the 'new' filter in)...

There are also instructions online.

You either have an AC ricirculating button that has a u shaped arrow or it says auto and has 3 positions.
Arrow, no IAQS, auto means you have IAQS and takes the special filter

IAQS = interior air quality system. If your recirc thread has two lights green and amber, you have IAQS.

BTW, this is not much fun. You pretty much need to stand on your head to do it.

I'm petty sure this is how its set up.
the recirc is 2 buttons (just above the fan speed knob) auto and manual, with green and amber lights accordingly.

Re: Cabin Air Filter (Parts @ Boston Volvo)

You can use the charcoal activated for cars w/o IAQS, but that requires the slight modification that I mentioned above. No biggie.

Re: Cabin Air Filter (WillV70)

Yes, I bought a charcoal filter in a 1 inch thick package so it just slipped into the same non IAQS filter slot. No mods required. Do it yourself, it's fairly simple and will cost you next to nothing, except for the price of the filter.

Hint: This was the part I found most "tricky".
To remove the panel near the edge of the glove box, pull it out straight. Don't twist or you might risk breaking the plastic clip at the end. Here is the picture of the clip.

Re: Cabin Air Filter (AthruC)

Whenever I have a IAQS car I REMOVE the big filter and install a regular filter.
The big filter restricts the airflow so much that in the summer I need to go up 2 blower positions!
Install the regular filter and the AC works MUCH more effeciently, more airflow at a lower blower setting

Re: Cabin Air Filter (JRL)

I am just the opposite. I don't notice that much reduction in airflow but like the quality of the air that comes from the charcoal filter. It filters out odors much better than the standard paper filter.

Whatever you choose, just don't use both filters, you will kill your blower in no time.

Re: Cabin Air Filter (850arrrsaylikepirate)

So i thought i ws doing the right thing, and had auto Zone special order the Bosch replacement cabin air filter. It was the only option available in their system. About $20.

After much time spent up-side down on my head pulling the old flter out. It is about 1/2" thicker than the new bosch filter. I changed the filters anyways and stuck the new, thin, bosch filter in the slot where the old Behr Filter came out of.

Will this be okay? will the thin filter affect the blower system at all.? Is the thin filter supposed to go in the other slot?

Do i ned to return the thin bosch filter to Auto zone and order the correct filter for the IAQS?

it is crazy to me that the auto parts store doesnt even have the correct filter in their system. there is only one website i could find a matching 1 1/2" Behr replacement filter on.

here's the link:

http://sd.autohausaz.com/autoh...6@V70 R, 2.5 L5, Turbo, AWD&category=242213@Climate Control&part=242315@ACC Cabin Filter

Click on search by component, then Climate control, then ACC Cabin Filter replacement.

And the filter that is installed now:

You really think so? Im surprised. We have a car with and a car without IAQS, and I cant say that either of us notice a difference either way....weird.

The sensor detects the presence of substances such as nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons-the main constituents of diesel and petrol exhaust gases - in the ambient air. it measures the active carbon in the air, so no carbon filter, no proper IAQS functionality. IAQS turns on recirculate for you.
