Buying a 2010 XC90 3.2, yay or nay?

It looks really clean, had a Volvo shop look at it and they said it’s in great shape… BUT on 2nd test drive I noticed a very intense vibration in steering wheel while idling AND also a scratching sound from front passenger wheel. I was ready to take it but now not so sure. Looked at Carfax, and it had a 4 wheel alignment and “steering wheel centered” (what the heck??) at around 80,000 and ANOTHER 4 wheel alignment at 94,000. It’s now got 100,200 miles on it. So HARD to find good used cars during this pandemic and gotta have cash left to fill the gas tank, too! So I’m being extra cautious. Or will just continue to take the bus.
🤣 Thank you!
PS, had an ‘85 240 Turbo Wagon that I got almost 400,000 miles out of! My mechanic LOVED that car, too. That affair ended 20 years ago. I still miss it!

Vibration may be engine mount(s). Scratching from front passenger wheel can be something as simple as a loose plastic liner, or something a little more involved like a dragging or scored brake disc. Take it to another mechanic for a second opinion if possible.

The XC90 3.2 is a reliable car, with one of Volvo's best engines and a generally very strong transmission. Depending on the price, the XC90 may be a good deal with a bit of TLC. Don't be afraid to shop around for one that seems to be in better shape. On Facebook marketplace, for example, they are quite numerous.

If you do not need the size and space of an XC90, a V70, XC70 or XC60 will do the trick as well. Continue to look for models with the 3.2 litre engine for maximum longevity!
BenjaminD, thank you so much! I will dig in a little more. So appreciate the wise advice, my earlier research agreed with your advice on the 3.2 6 cyl. engine versus the others. Do you think getting engine mounts replaced is a major expense? I read on here about the possibility of a rock stuck in the rotor, and the dealer is gonna pull the wheel and check that. I do love the interior spaciousness of the XC90. Found another one with 25,000 less miles, one year newer. $1,500 more. This one has 3?owners for a car with only 75,000 miles, and that seems a little weird, but I’ll check it out. And will take a look at FB Mktplace, too! Great advice! So appreciate the help, it’s been daunting, just because economy and future income is all very tenuous! Appreciate having an ally, so big thanks! 😘
