Best service in Boston area?

I just dropped my car off today at the dealer where i purchased it (Volvo Wellesley) and lets just say I'm not confident that any of my issues are going to get resolved. Just the process of making the appointment over the phone was painful. I had to explain to the guy multiple times that I was not coming in for 10k service but for a number of quality issues, mostly rattles. When I dropped it off this morning, the service adviser was still under the impression that I was dropping it off only to have any open campaigns performed, so I had to sit there for 15 minutes and explain all of the issues to her again. Hopefully, I'm wrong, but I'm not expecting to have much fixed. Guessing it will be a lot of "we couldn't reproduce that" type BS. What dealers have others had success at in the Boston area, particularly with rattles?

I've been driving out to Westborough. They're not bad, but nowhere near the quality of my Porsche dealer in Westwood.

I try to avoid Wellesley and Boston Volvo.

Have you tried Norwood or the South Shore dealer? I have an oil change scheduled at the Norwood dealer in a few days.

Honestly, from a sales standpoint, they're all garbage. I went down to Steingold in RI to purchase my XC90.

Yea I've heard terrible things about 128 Volvo. They would actually be the most convenient for me (I work in Reading every other week) but it sounds like a disaster. I might have to give Volvo Village a try. I actually test drove there first, but got the best deal at Wellesley.

I tried to buy an XC90 there that I knew they got at a buyback/lemon auction and they were trying to sell it as a new vehicle. They got all pissy when I informed them I knew they were selling a buyback and how much they paid for it. I'm sure they found a sucker and raked him over the coals on that deal.

I also purchased from Steingold just over the border in RI and had a great experience. They are different from the other Volvo dealers as they are very literally family run in every function and are deceptively small. Their size keeps interactions honest and accountable (can't really blame that other guy), and less waste on the non-value-added flashy bling sheet. If sales is this straight shooting my assumption is service is quite similar.
By the way, this is the same Steingold Volvo that sells all those great priced warranties . . .
Do let us know who you end up going with and how that experience went. Good luck!

I’ve been happy with Volvo Wellesley - just down the street and the sales process was mostly over text and very efficient. The only service has been an inspection sticker and some Parts (touch up paint and mudflaps). Hoping the first service is 10k and it goes well. I do know they are building a whole new facility next to the Audi dealer within the next year. Hoping they move soon as that facility is dated...

The dealerships in the Boston area are an undistinguished lot at best. I have had unsatisfactory dealings with most of them over the past ten years. Route 128 is a sleazy operation and clearly the worst of the worst.

I would like to like Steingold, as they are in my hometown, but had a poor experience trying to buy a car from them. The place is small, shabby, and superannuated. I also dealt with one of the family members by E-mail trying to buy a replacement part and he tried to gouge me on price until I wrestled him to the mat. Pickup of the part was not exactly seamless either. Pawtucket may have lost its Red Sox farm club AAA ball team to Worcester, but one, two, three strikes still means you are out at the old ball game.

Volvo of Plymouth is a very new operation, having opened last December, and they are trying very hard to please their customers. I have had several excellent service experiences there. The physical facility is palatial, they provide new Volvo loaners, and there are Pilgrims, Native Americans (formerly Indians), a rock and a boat for the historically incllined. And two excellent new craft breweries to visit while you wait. What's not to like?

volvobuff makes an excellent argument for Plymouth. That being said, my only recommendation from which I have experience is Volvo Village of Danvers. That's where I bought my XC90 (CPO) and had a very nice experience with them. Afterwards, I have serviced with them and also had a very good experience. I live in New Hampshire and Exeter Volvo is only 10 minutes from me, so I tend to use them for standard scheduled services, but I've had trouble getting them to fix stuff under the CPO warranty that Volvo Village had no hesitation on. Wherever you go, good luck :)

Sales and service at a particular dealer are 2 distinctly different things which are getting mixed together in this thread.

I deal mainly with Boston Volvo due to their proximity. While not without a few hiccups, I have been generally with their service department. Once you find an advisor you are comfortable with, insist on dealing directly with that person. Scheduling and loaner availability is very easy with them as well. Their Service Manager recently left, so we'll see how that impacts things. Once my vehicle is out of warranty I will go back to using ABJ Auto Repair on Mystic Ave in Somerville for mechanical needs.

On the other hand, Boston Volvo's sales practices are shameful. Long story short, but I traded a vehicle in which had been in a major accident, $30k+ of repairs and surprising it was not totaled. They certainly figured this into their offer for the vehicle, and then came back after the deal was done looking to lower the price as they "found more issues". As we already had a written deal, I respectfully declined. Some months later when in for service, I saw my old vehicle on the sales lot. Their write up said "CarFax shows a major accident, however this is incorrect and we are working to get this fixed. This vehicle was involved in a minor parking lot fender bender with only minor body damage.". Dishonest scumbags...

So far, not great with Wellesley. Beyond the initial scheduling, where they did not return my call and then the first available date was 2 weeks out, now they of course are not able to reproduce the brake squeal or the engine pad clicking. I just sent the TJ for the engine pad to the service advisor and told her I won't accept the vehicle if it's not fixed. The noise is constant and not at all difficult to reproduce...

For my headliner rattle, they did do something but it turned out to not be the issue, so they are taking it apart again.

Car's been at the dealer for a week as of today. They said they've had the headliner out 3 times now, thought they found the issue, put it back together, only to have the noise remain. At this point they've given up and have called the "Volvo Tech Hotline" to have someone come look at it. I actually think its a bad weld at the B-pillar and roof (although I don't honestly know if that's even welded or built as a single piece) because if I open the rear driver's side door to its stop, and then try to push it past that, it will make the clicking noise in the roof.

Just wanted to update everyone on my experience. The dealer was finally able to resolve the clicking noise in my roof by replacing the entire sunroof "cassette". Unfortunately this whole process involved removing and replacing the headliner 4 times and they destroyed it. Its bent and dented in places, the B and C pillar covers are all scuffed up, my whole interior is a mess (i had just detailed it 2 weeks before I took it in). I've been in contact with the manager and he has promised me they will replace all damaged parts and thoroughly detail my car. I also called Volvo corporate and was able to get one month lease payment credited since I was without the car for just shy of 4 weeks, and now it has to go back in to get this mess fixed. If that wasn't enough, now the whole sunroof seems to make some noise when driving over rough road (although it could also be the headliner, so I will wait until that is replaced to make a final judgement) and now I somehow how the squeaky cricket noise coming from my 2nd row seat. They also failed to fix my engine pad click (claimed they can't hear it even though its constant) and my side mirrors not tilting in reverse (they did a software update but it didn't help. If anything they work less often now). So overall not impressed. I did miss my B&W sound system though and am happy to have that back...

I don't know if this is still the case, but when your dealership was known as Lee Imported Cars (before Bernardi took it over), the new car storage lot out back would flood to a considerable depth whenever it rained. The sales staff humorously referred to this natural phenomenon as "Lake Wellesley". We are expecting heavy rains this week, so if you will be stopping by the store again, you will be in for a real treat. :D
