How much do you want to carry?

While it's not on an XC90, I do use the Thule Sonic XL on my XC60 and love it. Great for skis, gear, bags, etc.

 

Why not hitch cargo box?

Thanks tarrbot and dr_ashk. I would like to be able to carry luggage so some of the lower profile boxes might not work. I like the idea of the hitch cargo box but we don't have have plans to add a hitch at this point. I appreciate the link. I'll take a look at the Thule Sonix XL.

 

I've got the Sonic XXL - fits great. No fish-mouthing issues and plenty of space. The car's noise does a good job of filtering out whatever noise the box might be making up there.

 

I just picked up the Yakima Skybox 21 and the OEM Volvo rack. Looks great and the wind noise isn't too bad.

 

Looks great! Do you think you could fit 2-3 medium size suitcases in there?

 

Volvo dealerships rent roof racks. You might want to check that if you don't use it that often. I cannot find the link now, but it was not that expensive if you are only using it a couple of times a year.

Three different sizes available and compare the warranties to the aftermarket. Many Volvo accessories share the new car warranty period.

 

I can't say for certain but I think some of those Volvo branded boxes are rebranded Thule boxes. Not sure if you get a better deal on one or the other but I can get points if I get one at REI or Gander Mountain.

I'm a big fan of my Thule equipment but I did buy the rails from Volvo. They were cheaper than I could get from anywhere else and fit perfectly.

 

I picked up the Yakima Skybox at REI this week. It's great! Plus I was able to use the 20% off member coupon! Great deal!
