One of my colleagues has a '06 V70 that needs tires and is going to Northern Germany in the next month or so. He's looking for the best all-season tire for his beloved R wagon.

"Best" is a relative term but we've been thrilled with our Pirelli PZero Nero M&S on my wife's R. Sticky, quiet and great wear so far...

C'mon we all know that Michelin PS all seasons are by far the "best", they also cost an arm and a leg, but you should get 25-30K miles out of them

I second the recommendation of the Pirellis. They're just as grippy as the Nitto NT555 summer tires I had before and about 1/2 as noisy.

I agree JRL. If you want the best, go with the Michelins.

Gues what that's BULL.
I use Conti Extremes on a lot of Volvos, great tire but not anywhere near the perfromance of the Micheli.
It got ahead of the PS All seasons because of the price, over 1/2 less than the Michelins and you can't beat them FOR THE PRICE, but the Michelins are a better tire

Michelins are probably the best, I know they will out perform the Nero M+S
and have a great compound, the compound is better but at the price the 17 Pirelli is the best 17 A/S in my opinion

If you live in temperature extremes I would take the Michelin any day.
If you live in New Jersey where it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter I would take the Pirelli but if the temperature varies like in california
or other western places I choose the Michelin, extreme hot places where
you are wanting more tread life I would use the Michelin

I have never had the Michelins on my V70R because I am so happy with the Conti Extreme Contacts. With 20k miles on them, they have lots of trend left and work great in the snow for a M&S rated tire. They are still very quiet and grip very well in the turns, but I am no boy racer either. For the price point, I love them and can't justify the small performance increase the Michelins might offer.

I agree the Conti Contacts are a VERY nice tire and for the money, unbeatable in fact, but there IS a difference and more than just a little.
I know, I run both

Check out the Hancook Ventus ES4's. I've had them on my V70 since February and just got back from a long summer vacation drive...thrilled with the handling, quiet ride, great in the wet, good wear and all at a very very good price.

I;'m wondering why you are even using all-season tires when you're located in San Diego.

I have the Conti Extreme Contacts on my S60R and I am very pleased. I also considered the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position - but they do not come in 18". I say buy the Conti's and save the additional $500 you would spend on the Michelins!

Re: Best All-Season Z-Rated tires for V70R ??????? (Ready to R2)

I'll second the Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position R960AS recommendation, I've got these on 2 of our family cars, and they are a great all-round tire. So far I put them on my wife's BMW 528i Sport, and my mother-in-law's V70 2.4.

In the dry, they are not quite as sticky as say, Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2's, but they DO have equivalent fast turn-in response, very low noise and good comfort, and are great in the rain. I have not tried them in the snow yet, but on an AWD R they will be good enough for the occaissional ski trip to Lake Tahoe.

I am a new V70R owner of 2 weeks, 1200 miles so far, and I'm trying to wear out the stock Pirelli P-Zero's as fast as I can ! These tires are very rough, and very noisy. Then I'll replace with the R960AS.
