Auto-climate ac?

Our new XC60 Inscription is great, however I'm wondering if our AC settings are not correct?

When you get in the car when it is HOT out and the climate is set to "70" degrees for example, why doesn't the fan automatically run at MAX until the temperature inside the car comes down to "70", then lower itself to maintain the temp?

As it works right now, I have to manually set the fan to max, and manually turn it back down when it cools off a bit....why?

I wondered the same thing - my P1 S40 (2007) had dual zone climate control and did that automatically.

I leave the fan on AUTO (speed 3) and I've noticed it does slightly increase the fan speed when there's a significant temp differential, maybe +10%. The manual mentions slight AUTO fan speed changes depending on temp. But ya, it would be nice if it had a greater AUTO fan speed adjustment range, say +50% until the interior cools down.

Mainly because that's not the best way to cool down a space. Blowing the fan inside a closed space isn't going to do much if the AC isn't yet up to full capacity.

AC works by removing heat and humidity from the space, and blowing the fan faster doesn't make that happen any faster.

The fan mainly acts to circulate the air in the space and blowing hot air around faster doesn't make it cool quicker.

ya, the I've wondered this same thing about the auto fan. I've also never seen an auto fan with speed selections. Doesn't that make it not auto?

I don't know, the whole first-start A/C situation is a mess to me. I get that people think "well, you'll just cool off eventually", but I've got 9 months of summer temps in Atl to deal with, and when the interior of the car is 120, and I just traversed a parking lot in 95 degree weather, I want my brand-new, high-dollar 2018 XC to be at least as good at this as my 2016 XC was...

New ‘18 XC60 T6 Inscription owner here. Had it about 4 days now and been reading a lot. I’m in Northern California where it actually got a bit warm today! So as I understand the auto climate in the XC60 it doesn’t function like a typical auto climate in most other cars. For example in my Fiat if you set auto climate it would adjust fan speed up to max depending on how hot it was and what temp you wanted to cool to. Any manual adjustments cancelled auto climate. Not so on the XC60 from what I can tell. How it seems to work for me is that whatever fan speed and zone I have selected the auto climate works within that range. For example if. Have the fan speed set at 3 and don’t ha e the zone for face selected, auto climate will only use up to a max of fan speed 3 and never exceed that speed. It will go lower but not higher. And it also only seems to use the zones selected. So if I want auto climate to use the max fan speed I have to set it to max fan speed (5) and to utilize all zones (feet and face and above). After those are set I hit the auto climate button again and that seems to stick. So today I set temp to 70 degrees. It initially turned on to max fan speed and then lowered fan speed as cabin cooled. I haven’t had the car long enough to know if I, exactly right but I think this is how it works. When I had the fan speed in the middle it would never exceed that.
