Audio Amplifier Options?

Hi,

I have a 2009 model V70 Volvo Ocean Race.

It seems that my yellow-stickered audio amplifier has given up the ghost.

The part number is 31215614 and 31215615 and I would like to buy a used replacement.

I wondered what other model amplifiers would work in it's place? Are there amplifiers from later models that I could swap straight in?

I'm aware that I can use the blue-stickered 31215612 312156013, but I understand that this would be a 200W amp, rather than the 300W I have.

I've seen red-stickered amplifiers that look the same on Scandinavian sites, but don't know what the colour means in that instance.

Any and all advice welcomed.

Thank you!

Martin

Without unlocking the ITP security there are technically no drop in options without a dealer software update. You can check out my thread here on it: How to retrofit Premium Sound (DynAudio) and Satellite...
Thank you. I suppose that I'm not looking for an upgrade, but more of a solution to bring me back to where I was when the amplifier worked.

I'm not having any joy in locating a yellow-stickered amplifier (31215614 and 31215615).
What would be the impact of installing a used blue-stickered amp (3125612 3125613) model?

Yellow sticker and 2009 should mean dynaudio premium sound.

Is there no sound at all or just little sound with no "pop" or simply sounds bad?

As I have been on it a few times, the Dynaudio woofers in the doors are commonly blown on these cars, so if its the latter its probably not the amp.

Many thanks for your reply.

Sadly, there is no sound at all - after a few days of intermittent sound - as if there was a bad connection in the wiring (which I've checked since). I didn't experience a "pop" sound at all.

The car was registered in September 2008 and was the new model, so I refer to it as the 2009 model. I had thought that blue sticker was standard and that yellow sticker meant High Performance. If you believe that the yellow sticker is premium, is a blue sticker high performance?

Either case, what does the display say when you power up the head unit?

The yellow sticker parts means it is a premium sound system part. If the display does not say Premium sound then something is fishy as you should not have the yellow sticker amp.

If the center grille on the dash does not have a Dynaudio logo then something is also fishy.

Yes, I have a centre Dynaudio speaker - from which the SAT NAV screen comes up.

Yes, the display says "Premium Sound" and a reference to Dolby Pro Logic. Sorry, I only now realise that my reference to "High Performance" was wrong.

The car was a Volvo Ocean Race model with all the extras used by Volvo management for six months before I purchased it. It has every extra available at the time.

Hey MGMOLONY,

I'm in the same boat as you. My new-to-me XC70 with the premium audio has a bad amplifier and it's the same part number as yours (31215614 and 31215615). I have not been able to find a replacement with those part numbers, but based on my research, the other compatible part numbers that will work are: 31215530, 30752806, 36001561, 31282273, and 31282274.

The yellow or purple dot stickers on the amplifier should indicate premium while the blue or green dot stickers are for high performance.

Either way, you'll still need to disable the security if you swap in a different amp from another Volvo.

I picked up a used premium amplifier with none of the part numbers that I previously mentioned, but I'm going to hook it up and see if it works anyway once my DiCE cable arrives in order to disable the security. I'll report back and let you know if it works.

If not, I will swap in a blue dot high performance amplifier and see if that works unless I happen to find a compatible amplifier in the meantime.

Thanks very much for that information.

I'm currently trying to see if I can have my premium audio amplifier repaired, which would be the best option, I think. I'll let you know if I make any progress on that front.

Yes, please do let me know how you get on with using the used premium amplifier that has different part numbers - that could be interesting.

Thanks again.

I was quoted about $350 to repair my bad amplifier, so I wanted to see if I could figure something else out first for the benefit of others that run into my situation. My amplifier issue is that the volume output is extremely low. I tested the Dynaudio speakers and they're not blown.

The premium amplifier I picked up for really cheap is out of a C70. p/n's are 31215619 and 31215620. It has the same 4 plugs for the harnesses. Will it work? I have no idea. I might lose the rear headphone jacks or they might stay operable, but probably not. Hopefully my Chinese clone DiCE cable arrives soon so I can test it.

FWIW my 2008 had bad DynAudio speakers. The fronts were toast and don’t work at all. The right rear worked after I fixed up the wiring to the speaker ‘tinsel’ (is that the right word?) while the left rear has worked fine.

I have been suspicious that maybe they received a bit of weather? It’s also possible the DynAudio speakers just don’t let that well (I think I have heard others on here mention early-ish failures) (if hundreds of thousands of kms can be considered early haha)

I don't have the experience to advise you on the speakers. In my case, I don't think that it is the speakers that are at fault as I get no sound whatever from any source and the problem occured over a couple of days - when I had intermittent sound and then no sound at all.

Is anyone aware of a device that can adapt the M.O.S.T. Fibre optic signal sent to the amplifier into normal analog multichannel audio?

seems like this would be ideal and allow the addition of whatever amp system we like!

another related question- I am acquiring a 2012 with the reg “high performance” audio and I think I’ve heard that the DynAudo Premium Audio amplifier from my 2008 (pre-senses) can’t be swapped into it….

Is there general advice about which years amps can be swapped into which other years?

With regard to converting the MOST optic audio signal to an analog signal, the answer is yes, but not easily. Apparently, there is a device called a HELIX SDMI25 that might be able to do it.

As far as swapping amps, I think you can do it, but you still need to disable the ITP theft protection. This is apparently a "dealer-only" function or you can do it through a new program called P3tool. I have yet to get it to work, but I'm going to keep at it.

Merhaba MGMOLONY,

[/ALINTI]
Merhaba ben Türkiye'den yazıyorum benim anfim yandı 31215530 mor etiketli başka seri anfileri takıyorum 13 saniye calisiyo kendini korumaya alıyor güvenliği nasıl iptal edecez kod lama istiyor ikinci el anfiyede kodlama yapilmiyomis aynı seri numara anfiden bulsam çalışırım peki yardımcı olursanız sevirinirim

Could just be a discoloration, have you seen more than one of these? I would just google the part number if available.

I personally am having a really difficult time finding a proper yellow sticker Dynaudio amp that will work in my '09 XC70 - I think mine is dead and every compatible amp I find is blue sticker.

Just find an S80 in the junkyard with DynAudio and swap it over with P3tool. If you are in or around NC I can do it.
