Just bought a 2022 B6 XC60... loving it so far! Do you think Apple CarPlay will eventually go wireless for us all via OTA?
Cheers

I don't have Renault where I live, so I can only base my points of argument on what the internet says, but I didn't find a single 2021 Renault to even have AAOS. It all started in late 2022/23 models as far as I could find on the Wiki. This video, from June 2022 shows AAOS with CarPlay, but Volvo also had it by that point with 2.2

Why are you posting a link to the Waze forum? I already knew that, said that, and confirmed that I already knew that in previous posts.

Argh, you quoting me again in a new post... Everyone knows about your phantom power-loss. You got it fixed, stop talking like it's unresolved.

Do they not allow for trade-ins where you are?

its pretty clear to me that Renault is getting more out of AAOS then Volvo, just looking at the UI and options you get.
also they have carplay but also android auto from the start, so you are not limited to just the apps that have been released for AAOS.

I've read from an app developer on a dutch forum that google is incredibly difficult to work with regarding development for a AAOS version for their app.
I'm sure its both google and volvo and also the communication between them and developers that could really improve.

for reference: a video of AAOS on the new renault megane e-tech

screenshot of the android auto + apple carplay options:

There must be a big reason for that
If Polestar was the first to accept AAOS and immediately followed by Volvo, before Renault, how is it possible that Renault has a better AAOS ?

Renault. Google makes the same base Android and Google Automotive Services. It's up to each car maker to somehow adds their overlays, UI customizations, vendor specific apps/settings, integration with their cars
Well, I persistently write that Volvo has the worst software team, but individuals attack me and write that Google is to blame for it, that they are responsible for everything related to AAOS

Volvo's development department was not able to adapt Android Auto for Sensus, for full-screen display
Now they are behind with AAOS, who is to blame for that

Earlier in the thread there were comments about Renault also having access to Waze...it's because of an exclusive deal with Google:

Despite building an app for Google's car OS, Waze is limiting the rollout to certain vehicles for now. The company says the app is exclusive to "the new Renault Austral Hybrid and Renault Megane E-Tech electric vehicles in Europe." The weird rollout might have to do with all those regulatory issues car apps have to deal with, and Waze says it will bring the new app to "more users across the globe in 2023."

I'll believe Wireless android auto when I see it. I think, instead, that GOOGLE is trying to avoid relying on AA and will instead encourage apps that run on Android Auto and Android Automotive. I'll also believe Carplay wireless when I see it, given the time that it took to get any form of Carplay working here. A final comment is that the hardware to support AA and Carplay wireless is already present on Volvos and has been for some time (hence all the aftermarket dongles than enable it). So, it is at least possible we'll see those options on the current infotainment.

The Motorola unit works much the same way. To get Android Auto working on AAOS you need the Android Auto app in the Google Store, which I believe is only available on two cars from Renault running v13 of AAOS, and will not work in our cars. You can't sideload AA's APK, so even if we were running v13 you'd need the app provided officially by Google.

I'm not saying that I think AA wireless can work on our cars NOW. I'm saying that it is technologically possible from a hardware perspective. The software capability would needed to be added. I don't think that will happen though because I believe Android will evolve in a different direction. I believe GOOGLE is going to try and develop a seamless experience for Android Auto to Android Automotive, so that the same apps run on both platforms. The end result will be that AA wireless will be a nonissue.

I don't think any version of Android Auto will ever run on the SPA platform and I'm not confident in will be in the EX90 either. I don't think that is where it is all going.

This is all just an informed guess though - I'm hardly an industry insider and claim no special knowledge or insight.

Got ya, sorry for the confusion.

As of now, they claim the EX90 will support Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto...but I agree, seeing is believing.

For me personally, I don't get using CarPlay or AA with AAOS. You lose the center map and heads-up display for directions. If you need to run an app not in the store, just use the Bluetooth connector. I run Waze on my phone while I navigate with AAOS to see where the speed traps are.
