I'm researching the Volvo '94/'95 850 estate BTCC. Does anyone have the specs on this car? I'm looking for: weight, wheel/tire size, torque, bhp, gear ratios, final drive ratio.

thanks,
Glen

I can give you some info, i.e

1984cc 5 cyl engine developing 280+ bhp, 6 speed sequential gearbox, 8 pot disk brakes and used to race with a catylitic conveter fitted !!!.

Thanks, I just found an old Volvo press release with the following info:

Chassis: Four door shell stiffened by additional tubular steel roll
cage.

Engine: Highly tuned 2 litre unit:-
Number of cylinders: 5
Valves per cylinder: 4
Displacement mm: 1,999
Stroke mm: 73.9
Bore mm: 83
Max. output KW/bhp/rpm 205+/280+/8500

Catalytic Converter: Catalytic exhaust emission control and silencer fitted.
First BTCC car to do so before mandatory in 1995.

Transmission: Purpose built racing transmission. Six-speed sequential -
push for low gears, pull for high gears. Interchangeable
ratios. (can anyone estimate what these ratios probably were?)

Suspension: McPherson struts at front. Coilspring over damper - Volvo
Delta link at rear.

Braking system: Brembo calipers and discs.

Cooling: High efficiency aluminium water radiator. Heat exchanger
for engine and transmission oil.

Steering: Modified Volvo rack and pinion. Momo steering wheel.

Wheels and Tyres: Dunlop racing slicks - 6 allowed per race, Dunlop wets
and intermediates -16 allowed per event. Mounted on OZ
forged magnesium alloy racing wheels 18" diameter x 8.2"
rim.

Additional Features: Heated windscreen

I'm also still looking for:
weight
torque

I think the weight was 2150 according the regulations but this has changed a few times over the years.

The early engine's developed 280+ bhp, the later ones close to 300. Torque was different per track. As far as I'm informed different exhaust manifolds were used and the velocity stacks of the 5 individual throttle bodies could be exchanged for different length ones to suit the torque to a specific track. Same goed for the gearbox. Different ratio's per track.

These cars did not use 8 pod calipers. The estate was the least technical version, the later sedan's were much more advanced.

Engine was placed against the firewall and on a sandwich carbon alloy "subframe" plate. With the dry sump oil system the engine was placed straight on this plate and was mounted a lot lower in the car. The X-trac 6 speed sequential gearbox was situated in such a way that the driveshaft ran in front of the engine instead of the back with the production 850's. Car's were right hand drive btw.
