Hi All,

I'm currently patiently/impatiently waiting for my new volvo to arrive and a few things that are huge question marks for me but dont seem to be addressed on the forums so here we go with a few questions for anyone interested in answering.

The new 455 hp drivetrain according to my dealer wont be "polestar tuned" on a polestar... which doesnt make sense to me.

Is the new 455 hp drivetrain going to be quicker then the old 415/420 hp one or slower due to the lack of shiftpoints/engine calibration tuning?

How does the new 455 hp drivetrain without a supercharger pass at hwy speed vs the old one due to the fact the electric drivetrain shuts down above a certain speed...

One weird question is i know the electric drivetrain shuts down around 120kmh? which means at hwy speeds in the snow up here in Canada i only have a fwd car correct? or can i override it on to retain awd at those speeds if i want to?

Sorry (kinda) about all the questions just trying to figure it out as volvo seems to not be very forthcoming with some of the answers lol/.

The answer is no, can’t override that. Also, you guys up in Canada drive over 75mph even in the snow? That seems pretty nuts to me

What your dealer may have interpreted by your question is if your car can be "polestar tuned" on top of what it comes like from the factory. Since this is an actual Polestar Engineered car, all of their optimizations are stock, and there's nothing more to add, therefore you have no extra "polestar tune" on top of what they've already changed from the stock version of the drivetrain, which is more than you can get with a stock drivetrain and a polestar tune:

stock drivetrain < stock drivetrain with P* tune < actual "stock" Polestar Engineered drivetrain (which is tuned by Polestar from the ground up, not just as an added bonus like the stock one)

Polestar cars don't have the option of being polestar tuned because they're already that way from the ground up, in a more comprehensive way than the "add-on" tune. They can't be "added" as it would be to a "normal" car because you don't have the option of not having it, so your dealer is a bit confused on that topic.
The engine's calibrated in the same ground-up fashion the older one is (contrary to what your dealer is telling you) and with the added electric power I would expect it to be quicker, and have better torque vectoring.

What's the new battery range for 455hp setup?

The ERAD cannot be the sole source of power above 78 mph, but I'm pretty sure it still is producing power. I've seen the little power app show both electric and rear producing power above 80 (assuming the animation is correct). Someone here once looked at the tech specs and it was rated up to some ridiculous rpm and could still function at that speed... There's a thread on it somewhere. And I thought someone had a thread about taking the PE to the track and this came up as well....

Interesting, mine always vanishes completely above 78 even when off throttle rolling downhill, to say nothing of on-throttle.

I did 300 miles of highway today, so had some time to test.
Pure - you can get above 78 mph rolling downhill and the ice motor doesn't come on. The driver performance app shows power flowing from rear end.
Hybrid - above 78 mph, the ICE comes back on. Performance app shows power flowing to front wheels.
Constant AWD and PE modes show power flowing from from and rear systems above 78. On lift-off the throttle, the rear wheels show battery recharging.

I was not in hold or charge mode for these tests.

I wonder if it's a tweak made to 2021 models. Even in Pure mode my ICE kicks in going downhill.

So I can put your mind at rest and also correct a lot of assumptions made here, as.... I have the new model! I got my v60 polestar at the end of Jan and was expecting 415bhp, an 11kw battery, about 20 miles of range and the ev part shutting down over 75mph

But I'm pleased to tell you, most of the comments are wrong! The new electric motor is so powerful, that I out accelerate most cars on pure electric alone. Its now 145 bhp, and the battery is 18.8kw, which gives 33-37 miles of range. I typically get about 31-33,but in the milder weather this week, 35.

The electric motor goes on way past 90mph, although I've not tested pure ev above that. But at 90mph on cruise, it's about 60% of capacity. The new motor has gone from 87 bhp to 145, so it naturally will not cut out as soon.

The overall power is now 463bhp (although that's my maths based on the new 145 bhp ev, as there are no stats out there!).

It's a 2l, turbo, supercharged petrol which drives the front.

The car is absolutely epic, people can't believe the speed! Put it in polestar mode and watch people wonder what the hell happened. The instant electric kick is epic, and then the angry tiger petrol takes over to give it a mega boost again. Its under 4s 0-60.

I'm in the UK, so there could be model variations, but should be close.

You can't change drive mode now on a dial, that's annoying, you have to dive into the screen.

This is a short post as I'm on my phone and up early, but if you want any more info, just ask! I'll try and upload a few images as well...

I'd definately recommend the top of the range sound system. The standard one left me very underwhelmed, but the upgrade is superb.

I also went for the active bending headlights which are stunning! The way they carve out the road ahead is incredible.

The pilot assist Pro system is good, but cuts out above 88 mph, sometimes 89, but I love using it in tedious traffic as you can relax a little, knowing its looking after you (but yeah, still paying attention to the road as at the end of the day, it's a computer!)

That's good to hear about those options being worrh it. Over here in Canada the polestars only come fully loaded with no options other then paint colour.

I wonder if the Polestar Engineered trim level will carry on into 2023 if the powertrain is the same as the trim levels? Essentially the PE trim would offer brakes, suspension, wheels and gold seat belts.

Is that enough for enthusiasts or should a PE include a power bump to 475hp or even 500hp to remain the halo trim level?

A bump over "normal" would be nice. I'll probably trade in my 22 PE solely for the extended range.

Does anyone know if it will have the Android UI?

Personally, I think they should've kept the P3 Driv-e engine that was in the 2017-18 Polestars in the SPA Polestars in the first place, making the 367 engine hp + batteries, and not only the normal T6 316 + batteries.
Don't think they'll be bumping the power even more, unless maybe they keep the T6 engine up front with the mechanical supercharger, and not the lower-powered electric one.
Then again, I hope I'm wrong and they do bump the power lol

I was supposed to get my V60 PE ER this week but the tornados in the gulf states earlier this week delayed transport. ETA is next Wednesday. Fingers crossed.
