Do you have the electric heater feature turned on? I haven't got to drive these enough to know fully how they work, but if you're not using the electric heater and you're no using the ICE... then there wouldn't be heat.

 

I did make sure that secondary heater was checked under climate. I was thinking maybe I'm missing a step too.....

This is the correct answer, The HVCH failure rate is high.

 

I have the exact same issue on the same 22.5 model but I’m yet to make an appointment - not looking forward to being told that that’s how it’s designed (my dealership service department is an absolute joke)…
Read about that HVCH part on here, but seems odd that so many of them would have day one failures on the 22.5…
Anyway, would appreciate you reporting back what you are told when you take it in, I’ll do the same.

 

I’m getting “parking climate service required.” It’s been cool enough that preheating it would be nice. No discernible heat when I drive on Pure either. I hear a weird noise like coolant circulating when I turn the on/off switch that I didn’t get before when parking climate ran the A/C.

 

On my 2019 S90, there is a setting under Climate to enable auxiliary heater. Could that be it?

Ours is in today. They confirmed the defect in the HVCH, which requires replacement. But they said that it was somehow connected to the cooling system as well and that both parts had to be replaced together. So we're waiting for one part or the other to come in. That doesn't make complete sense to us because the A/C has been working fine all summer, even in Pure Mode. But as long as they can fix it in a few days we don't care.

We also have the known problem with the headlight sprayers that won't retract after deploying. They are going to try to align those better so that they will retract correctly. I hope that works too.

Hey, is your heater functioning normally, as expected now after the service visit (in pure mode)?

How is it actually supposed to work when there’s no issues present?

I see people mentioning this secondary / auxiliary heater option, the only thing I’m aware of is this, is that box being checked all it should take for the heat to work properly while in pure? I check that off and crank both the driver / passenger side up to 80F/“HI” and the air felt neutral at best, def not hot..

Just dropped off my car today, and they confirmed HVCH needs to be replaced. They just said it'll take a couple of days to get the part in. Crossing fingers that it's true.

The other issues, ICE turning on and car jerking when it turns on even when there's full battery, they said was just a software update/issue. So lets see...

 

I too, have a 22.5 and have no heat coming out while in Pure mode. Booked an appt in a few weeks. Did everyone else have their heat back after swapping out the HVCH?

 

Ours is taking two weeks to fix but there’s another thread where a poster reported that replacement of the HVCH solved the problem.

 

I dropped mine off this morning, will update once resolved.

 

Just to add, I have a 22.5 and got the 'Parking Climate Service Required' as well. Took it to the dealer and sure enough the HVCH had to be replaced. Heat comes out now in Pure mode, and I can now precondition the car for a specific departure time.

 

Took my MY22 T8 to get diagnosed as needing a new HVCH. 2 week back order. I drive in hybrid all the time so knew I had an issue when preconditioning did not work.

 

HVCH for me, thought they'd have replacement in a couple days.

 

Happened to my 22.5 ER also.

• DTC (trouble code) was in the "CCM" module, code U133A93
• The problem is the failure of the high voltage coolant heater (HVCH)
• The dealer repair order says it's covered by Volvo technical journal 36257

Part on backorder.

 

My dealer updated me today and said they “are begging for the part.” Guessing we’ll be driving a loaner for a while.

 

While you’re waiting, one thing that does work is to switch on the combustion engine for a few minutes. Of course if you’re obsessive about fuel consumption that may be more uncomfortable than the cold

 

I found this thread while searching for reasons why my heat isn't working. Considering how many 2022.5 Volvo PHEVs seem to be having the problem, it's like they shipped the cars out with known faulty parts (due to supply chain issues) with the idea of getting caught up on repairs as new parts became available later, rather than delaying delivery. Similar to how other car manufacturers were shipping without certain modules installed and having the dealerships install them later. I find it hard to believe this wasn't caught in any kind of basic QA testing.

 

I agree completely. Astonishing that I'm driving a brand new $100K+ vehicle and the first time I go to use the heat since new and it doesn't work. Then dealer has to replace the HVCH. Highly unacceptable and hoping this is not a sign of things to come for my 2022 XC90 T8 Recharge.

 

Put us down on this list as having this problem as well. The screwed up thing is we noticed it on the way home from the dealer after having the VOC service light on (there's a backorder on that backup battery as well). We have had the quadrafecta already in 2400 miles of ownership.

1) multiple Check Engine Lights (software updates supposedly)
2) crackling noise in fan ... while there they replaced something else that others have found wrong, but I can't recall (voltage something?)
3) VOC service required ... still backordered
4) And now no heat in Pure mode (can be solved by putting it in Sport mode, but as we all know that defeats the purpose of having a PHEV)

Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you. We had a plethora of problems in the first year of ownership of my wife's 2019 Volvo XC60 T8 ... it spent a ton of time with a warning light on or in the shop early on. The last two years of ownership were flawless so I assumed they had this stuff worked out, but alas we are having MORE problems on our 2022.5 XC90 T8 ... they will be hearing from me. We love the car but are tired of driving back and forth to the dealership and feeling like we can't trust it. Mind you this is 2400 miles into ownership!

 

Got the official diagnosis today. And the dealership says they have about 15 other cars waiting on a new HVCH.

 

Yikes! 15 cars with a dead hvch at one dealer. Is this problem across all years of the T8?

 

got a 22.5 here, and I too just got back from the dealer - HVCH like every one else! They ordered the part and looks like at least mid-December. I wonder what the percentage of failed high voltage heaters were put into our XC90’s. Hopefully that was it with bad parts.

 

Something that grinds my gears: it appears a dealer in Dallas has a bunch of these HVCHs listed on eBay. Contemplating calling Volvo and shaming them into getting me one of them.

 

Dealership said it was all newer cars but wasn't specific about 2022.5 only. He also said that they don't see the problem on older models (again, not specific).

A poorly designed part that fails early is one thing, but these 22.5s have never worked properly and everyone is just now finding out due to cold weather.

 

Can anyone explain how the heater is supposed to work under pure mode?
We just started seeing 50s in the morning, and upper 60s to low 70s in the garage, so I could never tell whether pre-condition in our 22.5 should put out any heat. While driving under pure mode, I have tried to use the heater, it is slow to work comparing to the conventional way, but eventually some very mild heat does come out of the vent when temp is set to 80F.

 

For us, the heat never gets going in Pure mode even when I crank it up as high as it goes. We’ve also had a “Parking Climate Needs Service” warning in the dash and on my app when the preconditioning comes on. I believe, but don’t quote me, that this HVCH is new on 22.5+ T8’s.
