Anyone ever had the sunroof glass start cracking. This started happening this morning. Nothing hit the glass at all.

Dollars to donuts if you look closely you will find a small chip from road debris (like a rock). People all the time claim "nothing hit it", and yet a glass company almost always finds a point of impact that starts the cracking process. Kind of a bad luck thing, but best to turn in to insurance and be done with it. Have a dealer look at it, but very few cars ever get a warranty sunroof glass due to a manufacturing flaw or stress crack....it's just not very common to occur.

Dang that sucks! Depending on the state you’re in, car insurance covers the glass roof under the no deductible glass coverage.

Plenty of brands are having reports of spontaneous shattering glass roofs. I don’t believe they aren’t always from an impact.

Putting the copious amounts of drama aside, I have had my sunroof replaced under insurance for cracking on my V60PE. I heard a rock hit my windscreen only to be relieved it didn't crack it, until about a week later I opened the sunshade to discover where it did.

The impact point would barely fit the tip of a ballpoint pen. That dark spot in the middle was it.

If the glass did crack spontaneously it usually starts from the edge and travels inward, like a flaw in the edge that initiates the crack when you hit a large pothole. Following the path of least resistance it will travel back to the edge leaving a half circle crack on the perimeter.Or sometimes it's from fighting with your old lady but never starts without a sharp initiation point. If it did crack from only stress it would completely shatter.

Ignoring all the back-and-forth in this thread...

I had a similar experience with my 2021 V60CC, where I noticed a crack in the moonroof glass from one side to the other when getting into the car in the garage one morning. I had not noticed any prior impact to the roof area, and did not see any other damage to the roof, windshield or hood. I cannot say with 100% certainty that nothing did hit the glass, but I am still highly skeptical that there was an impact and still believe that the glass simply failed. However, it was far easier to get it repaired under insurance than warranty so that was the route I went.

I will say that the insurance adjustor and the repair shop both said that it was strange that there was no evidence of other damage, or any noticable evidence of an impact on the glass. Did not affect the coverage in any way, was just a "huh?" moment for both of them.

Also, I previously had a Subaru moonroof shatter from impact while on 495 in MA, and in that case there were also a couple chips in the roof paint from whatever object impacted the glass. This did not occur in the Volvo.

This is not to say that you (or I) are correct in our suspicions, but just wanted to let you know you are not alone in thinking that it may have just cracked on its own.

We took our Subaru Ascent to the dealer last month after noticing a crack in the panorama sunroof (not unlike Volvo sunroofs) - front to back through both (2) panels, rear panel fixed. We have no recollection of any kind of trauma incident. Service tech at dealer advised this was the 3rd of 4th Subaru sunroof they'd seen in as many months presenting like this. Advised us that corporate was aware and replaced both panels under warranty. Seems to me the integrity of this application is compromised somehow and is not altogether unusual.

That's interesting, less than a month ago, my dealer gave me a 2023 x60 inscription as a loaner. I opened the sunshade and the sunroof had cracks all over it with no impact sites and looked very similar to yours. I called them up and they said don't worry about they knew already. Sorry I didn't ask what happened-may be some type of defect?
