2019 XC60-How do you vent the vehicle?

For the life of me I can't figure out a way or can't find how to have the vents open to allow air from outside come into the cabin. I've never had a vehicle where this wasn't an option (I've only had Japanese cars) so maybe this is just how things are done.

It seems like the only way to get air moving in the cabin is to activate the A/C system and use the fan. Sometime I don't want to do that. The vehicle gets stuffy and I want to have the air outside come in while not having to roll down the windows. In previous vehicles I could tell this was working because 1) I had the option and 2) driving faster I could feel more forced air in the cabin coming through the interior vents.

Any ideas?

I noticed that, too, and it bugs me. All my previous cars had what was called, “flow-through” ventilation. To get outside air into my XC60, I developed a workaround. I crack open the moon roof and the passenger-side rear window. This creates an airflow that cools well, as long as it’s not raining!

Okay one of you will have to test this but this should be what you are looking for.

1. Open Climate view in the center display. 2. Tap Recirc. > Air re-circulation is activated/deactivated and the button lights up/goes out.

If the air in the vehicle is recirculated too long, there is a risk of fogging on the inside of the windows. Re-circulation cannot be activated when the max defroster is on.

Activating and deactivating the re-circulation timer setting The climate system's re-circulation function helps shut out smog, smoke, exhaust fumes, etc. by reusing the air in the passenger compartment.
When the re-circulation timer is activated, air re-circulation will switch off automatically after 20 minutes. 1. Tap Settings in the Top view in the center display. 2. Tap Climate. 3. Tap Re-circulation Timer to activate/deactivate the re-circulation timer.

Page 217 in the MY 19 manual.

Let me know if it works.

Interested.

I toggle back and forth to max a/c -defrost since it always fogs without it.

It’s a feature!!

The XC60 has an interior air quality system it designed to prevent outside contaminants entering the interior cabin. This modern climate control system has a charcoal interior cabin filter. It may not be possible to allow free flowing air the pass into the cabin without the assistance of a fan.

What I am getting at is that every single car I have owned or been in can allow flow-through air into the vehicle except this one; or at least I can't feel/detect it. You normally would be able to feel the air coming in while cruising on a freeway, highway, and even sometimes the average city road. You shouldn't have to run the fan for this. You shouldn't have to activate the A/C. I understand that deactivating the recirculation may be the trick. I'll have to check that out.
