2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country T5 Reliability

I know, this has been asked before, but i want fresh reasoning here if possible.

How reliable are the 2018 v90 CC T5's? I own an XC70 T5 with the drive-e and i LOATHE the engine and transmission in that car. Shifts are jerky and the engine sounds like a tractor. I know the V90's have the same engine, but I've read that it's quieter and more refined?

I just don't want another auto loan payment each month with the same issues my current XC70 has that drive me insane, plus my wife will KILL ME if she has to hear any more about Volvos.

Well I had one but traded it for a 2020 T6. In the time I owned it I drove only 16K miles, much of that on long trips on the highway. I never encountered any problems with the car and the engine performed well. I thought it was plenty fast. I think it's a little too soon for a long term outlook though.

You may already know this -- there have been software upgrades subsequent to the release of the car. Customers are entitled to one free upgrade annually during the first three Factory Scheduled Maintenance visits. There has been at least one that included transmission and engine enhancement/improvement. Some folks have commented here that it did indeed result in smoother shifting. It's not clear to me whether you would be buying this from a Volvo dealer, but if so, you may want to include in the purchase agreement that they will provide any software update that it has not received, plus see if you can receive any remaining FSMs.

I would also second checking out your local Volvo dealer. First I think the CPO warranty is a huge value. 2nd... as mentioned, they'll give a better figure for the XC70.. those cars book much lower than the market actually demands. Some of our XC70s are not affected by the new recall on seatbelts, making it one of the few previous gen cars we can sell, and we're super short on inventory, so any car in nice shape that we can retail would get better than book in our market (markets can vary, but we've been over book on nearly all our trade offers lately).

On Polestar, I was under the impression that Volvo has a 30 day return policy. I know our dealer honors that, so certainly worth a call as it won't improve your trade value.

The only other consideration is the improved hardware and ability to turn off the start/stop feature on the 2019s and later.

I will say that I too notice a shifting difference on the old body drive e cars and the SPA/CMA cars... I'm not sure why that is. Even the start/stop feels clunkier to me as I really don't mind it on the newer cars. With temps being high, it might be hard to get to experience that right now though.

Yes - this is a huge issue with the XC70s. Half year, confusing trims and engines, niche market. Don't get lowballed by a dealer offering what the computer says its worth. If it's a platinum especially, it will be worth considerably more, despite it being the FWD.

I have had problems with the headlights in my Cross Country since it turned approx. 12K miles. Three times to the dealer with both headlight assemblies replaced and yet again the low beams are too dim to drive at night. Anybody else?
Mine are fine, same year and model (without the turning lights).

I have had multiple trips to the dealer to replace my headlight assemblies in my 2019 V90 CC T5. Low beams have failed multiple times, being too dim to drive at night. Anybody else having this problem. Looks like I'm going to have to replace this car with only 16k miles on it.
