Searched on the internet and within Vida, but looking for advice how much Pag 46 oil to add to the new AC compressor.

Found this in Vida what the total amount of Pag oil in the system is, but I doubt it is accurate, total charge of freon listed under the hood is different from the table.
Drained the oil from the compressor but very little oil came out.
Also according to the internet you need to add 1oz to the dryer receiver too. But on the other hand you need to install it as quickly as possible too.

Your advice is appreciated.

I have no problems installing the New Ac compressor, just did the auxiliary drive belt kit install from FCP.
The new compressor is an exact replacement (Sanden) from FCP and have a new dryer receiver too.
Reason for replacement, clutch bearings are shot. A Shop did remove the Freon from the system ( from the high side only)

I came across this.
I'd have to defer to my hood sticker, but curious how much of a difference vida says.
Also, sorry, but do you know what you are doing? I ask because you made the comment about removing "freon" from the high side only. It doesn't matter. Do you understand that pressure wise high side/low side only exists when the system is running? Once the compressor (also a suction pump) is turned off, both sides equalize. They are not separate.
Every receiver/dryer I've ever replaced came with plugs. I always have everything together and the receiver/dryer is the last thing to attach. So exposure is a few seconds. Don't leave it laying around for hours with the plugs out.
Also, that is why you pull the system down with the vacuum pump for a few hours (I do) to remove moisture.
Anyway, here is this article.

Thanks much for your feedback.
Difference between Vida and hood sticker 0.77kg vs 0.83 kg ( on top of my head). No info on how much PAG oil in the whole system.

I got your remarks regarding evacuating the system, Vida states both ports should be connected when emptying the system. Don’t know why. But the system was empty.
I understand leaving the caps on the dryer before installing, I was asking if you add oil to the dryer, it leaves the dryer open longer than just the installation.
And yes I will be getting a vacuum pump and ac gauges to leak check and pump down the system.
Based on your pictures, you are saying; drain and measure what comes out of the old compressor and 1 oz into the dryer and receiver?

I'm sorry, I'm not telling you what to do. I'm only presenting info, personal and google, as to what I've done or what is out there. It becomes up to the individual to decide what course of action to take or believe. For example, rule of thumb I heard decades ago was 1oz of oil per item, not including the compressor. That rule doesn't seem to be too far off even today.
Here's the problem, I'm not there. And I don't know the car's history as to any a/c work previous. Do you? Point is, maybe the system was short on oil which is why so little drained out......or maybe that's normal. It's a dilemma, got it.
I don't know how correct the statement is concerning compressors having full system oil in them.

So here's my take. I always thought that a new compressor comes with the required amount of oil for a new compressor only, period. If I was adding a new receiver/dryer I'd add 1oz. of oil, period. I would be assuming that the system had the correct amount of oil before. I hate the word assume. I would not worry about moisture contamination as it only takes a few seconds to pour the oil into the receiver/dryer and then re-cap it , or install it. I've always added the oil to the receiver/dryer. The oil is circulated throughout the system and I've never read not to, so I do.

Measured the volume of oil from the compressor, approximately 8ml, hence my reason for asking how much to add.
I have all the service records, no prior work on the ac system. Current mileage is less than 94k.
Attached the picture from under the hood. No info on the total amount of oil listed.

I also found this recommendation for adding oil to parts that need replacing.
only the total amount adds up to 5.9 Oz/ 174.6ml
If I scale back the quantity to 120ml then I need to add 28.5ml to the compressor and 20.3ml to the dryer.

I'm now confused as to what you have done and where you are. You recharged the system already, and now you've removed the new compressor and nothing drains out? The old compressor was empty?
Are you draining using the compressor drain plug?
Or are you saying the new compressor initially had no oil? What did the instructions say, if anything with the new compressor.
Where did this 10oz number come from?.....I'm lost....what tutorial?

Let me start by thanking you and saving my day!
No I have not charged the system, just filled the new compressor with oil and put it back in the car. I had doubts about the oil amount and posted here.

Attached the instructions of the new Mahle /Sanden air compressor. No mentioning of the drain plug, just drain the oil from the ports. This is indeed incorrect, through the drain port I was able to remove; 80ml (I added) +20ml of the oil the new compressor came with.
Attached the location of the drain plug.
And the link to the online tutorial I used :How Much PAG Oil to Add to AC System

A Flush was not needed, only the clutch bearings were shot. Ac was working good.

For future reference:
  • drained total: 28ml from the original compressor, after using the drain plug too.
  • drained 30ml from new compressor, after using the drain plug.
I put in 30ml PAG 46 oil in the new compressor (exact amount that came out) and this is also close to the scaled down amount from the online tutorial.
And 20ml in the dryer.
Pulled vacuum from Sunday night until Monday morning and had it recharged on Monday . It works great 👍

Thanks much for your help.
