I was driving my 07 S40 today and the red triangle came on and the message said Engine system service urgent. The car wouldnt go over about 2000 rpms. I pulled over and turned the car off, started it and babied it home. I have started the car a few times over the last couple hours to see how it responds and the light/message is still on. My car has around 80,000 miles. Any one have any experience with this message? Thanks.

autozone, or any of the parts stores will give you a free reading. Is it still under warranty?

Had a similar incident a few months back with the red triangle. The light came on about a half mile after getting on the interstate; no detectable misfires, etc. Pulled over, shut the car off and restarted with no lights, stored codes, or other issues.

Oddly it was after filling up,I did move the car and let it idle for a few minutes before getting on the interstate. I didn't have any misfires or other codes the rest of the tank, so I assumed bad gas wasn't the issue.

Does anyone know what kind of issues would show this code and not retain it? Misfire codes are stored, correct?

ABS light?

No, it was the "Service engine service soon" flashing on the display, along with the red triangle, and a few chimes. I was perplexed that nothing was stored, thought my issue might be similar to the initial post, since the light just went off with no other lingering codes/indicators (ipd scanner and dealer).

Like I mentioned on the other forum, I had this happen to once before. It turned out to be a bad tune from Evolve's former tuning partner, Powerchips. When I took my car in the the dealer to look into it, they told me that there was conflicting software on my ECM and it had thrown all kinds of codes when they plugged my car into there system. Cost me a lot of money for them to reprogram my ECM and clean something (don't remember what it was) that had gotten clogged from my car running way too rich the whole time the tune was installed on my car Approx, 1-2 months.

The issue is that generic scan tools like those at auto parts stores cant read volvo specific fault codes. Odds are is you definitely have some codes stored just not generic ones.

I would take the car to the dealer for a proper diagnosis or an indy shop that has VIDA.

+1 to what Kyle said.
I have a CEL currently in my 850 that IIRC, is a 335 trouble code, Something about how my ECU can't locate my Transmission Control Unit. My generic scanner tells me that there are no codes stored. I took it to Volvo and they were able to pull the code for me.
