2004 - What's Leather / What's Fake?

Just curious, and not sure if the "R" interior is different from the T-5s etc, but anyway:

My 2004 has the Gobi leather interior.
The door trim panels look & feel like leather.

Does anybody know for sure what leather-look stuff is real, and what is fake?
If it's all real, then there sure is a LOT of cow inside!

If some is real & some is fake - are some cleaners / conditioners better on the real stuff vs. the fake stuff?

Thanks

I went to get a quote from a upolster shop a while back to get all of my interior re-done because it's pretty much F#&$^@ and they told me that everything on the doors is vinyl but the seats were leather.

So wait are you asking about an R or a T5??

This thread if its about an R should be in the R forum where it would get a lot more action.

Anyway, yes the R is all leather, through and through, just like DevolvR stated.

I use Lexol conditioner on the door panels, on top of the instrument cluster, armrest, entire seats front/rear, head rests, basically all that you see that's (in your case) Gobi. I wouldn't do the steering wheel as it gets enough oil from your hands.

If you need to clean the leather don't use the Lexol cleaner, its a bit to harsh for the delicate R leather. Warm water and woolite works pretty good. If your leather is really f'd up you should try a product called Leatherique, its pretty damn good.

Thanks for the info!! Yeah I have a couple of fairly big spots on my seats that looks like dried paint from when I got my car painted they got it on the interior but it doesn't look like what paint would look like if it was overspray. I found some interior from a wrecked S60 but it's not a T5 so I don't think the seats will be as nice, so I'll try your idea to clean it.

Cool!

I sure thought that it was all leather (even the door panels). I was thinking that if it was fake, it was some AWFULLY good fake stuff.

Weather's supposed to be a bit cooler in the Milwaukee area this weekend - maybe a good weekend to give my new baby a good cleaning, inside & out.

Thanks for the cleaner tips. I'll have to pick-up some stuff.

Leatherique is a process but gives great results. I had a friend do his Gobi and it looked amazing afterwords.

On the premium Volvo models, they do leather everywhere. The 262C Volvos had 100% leather door panels and headliners. It's gorgeous.
